Legally? YES.

Edited to correct reply based on direct information from the MOM!

I'd disagree SMS, which is probably a first! Work freelance but don't get paid in to SG bank account?

Well, I have fired off a mail to MOM to get a definitive answer to the question as both of us are speculating as I don't really know the answer. When MOM gets back to me I'll post the results here....

I'll be real interested to hear the answer, SMS. Such a job would definitely fly under the radar since no money would change hands in Singapore. No job in Singapore would be threatened since this is all offshore. And since income tax would be paid in India, any money earned this way would not be subject to Singapore income tax.

Okay, Good news for our OP!

This from the MOM:
MOM wrote:Dear Mr SMS

We refer to your email dated 22 November 2008.

You may wish to note that a work pass is not required for Dependant Pass
holders working remotely at home for overseas company that is not registered
in Singapore.

For more information, you may visit MOM's website at www.mom.gov.sg.

Should you have further enquiries or clarifications, you may write to us via our e-feedback at .............
Good news for all you DP holders out there. It would also appear that you can still have it credited to your local account as well as long as the company is not registered in Singapore. I learned something new today!
