? about SAS High School

Can anyone tell me if there is a long waitlist to get a space in the high school at SAS? I'll be moving in the summer and want to enrole my daugther in 9th grade. Thanks

Not anymore. Wait list has dried up with the financial crisis and admission has been opened up to a broader clientele. Good luck :)

Thanks for your reply. The response I got from the school was a bit cryptic and I was trying to figure out if time was of the essence in regards to applying. Sounds like this is a good time to be moving to SG. Maybe we can take advantage of lower prices for housing etc. :)

Yes, I'd say that's right. If you are sure you are moving, and sure about SAS then I'd do whatever I had to do to secure a spot. Once the admissions policy changes, the spots will fill up and the 'turnover' for new spots will slow down. Also, I'm sure you've considered this as well, but anything you can do to ensure you stay all four years will be great for your teen. One more thing to consider: the incoming freshman class is usually one with the longest wait lists, and even though other grades might have cleared, there could still be high demand for 9th grade.

Hi road.not.taken, I actually thought admission to SAS was restricted to American citizens only. Am I wrong or have they really changed their admission policy in response to the lousy economy?

It's been open for other nationalities for as long as I can remember, but I'm sure RNT will have a better handle on it as to when.

No, it was never restricted to American citizens. A preference was always given to the children of parents of North American descent, in hopes that the children of those companies could educate their children with a US/Canadian curriculum while fulfilling a contract in Singapore. When the economy changes, the interpretation changes -- sometimes both parents have to be US/Canadian passport holders, sometimes one, sometimes just the child and neither parent.

2 years ago when I applied they told me they were only taking applications from children with US passports.

I believe it has always been North American, but as they were fulll up to the rafters with long waiting lists 2 years ago, they probably didn't feel they had to be too specific.
