Open Office?

You can download for free Open Office from www.openoffice.org

Word and Excel are 99% same, totally compatible. Access very different. But I have it in my computer since Im in Singapore and I never have needed a Word or an Excel for anything.

And is free and legal

Which version do you need 2003 or 2007? You could always buy the Home Office and Student version(non commercial) which is a slightly cut down version of the Microsoft Office package but good enough to learn with.

For Trial (2007 version you will need a Windows Live Id easy enough to set up);

To Buy;

if your functionality requirements are very low then you can make use of online application provided by google.
go to docs.google.com where you will have online access to word excel type applications

if you have a Gmail account, simply email the file to yourself and open it from within Gmail using the google spreadsheet online.

Don't need to install or buy anything.
