CNY trip to Mount Kinabalu anyone?

Post by nathan » Tue, 04 Nov 2008 2:15 pm

Hi all,

I posted a message on the 'Events, Gatherings, Making Friends' board last week asking if anyone was interested in going to East Java for the upcoming Chinese New Year break. Little did I know, end Jan is still peak monsoon there and I'd probably get buried in a land slide if I go.

So instead of climbing Semeru, wondering if anyone is interested in climbing the more popular Kinabalu? Dates would be 24-27 Jan, or even the whole week.

Reply back or PM me.

Hello, am thinking of going to KK over CNY. Debating whether to climb KK as I am not sure if the altitude will get me.

Hi, I am keen to climb KK over CNY. I am reasonably fit, because I do a little sport climbing but I have never climb any mountain before (and I am pretty sure Mt Faber don't really count!).

Let me know if you are keen, and I can help do the research on flights, accomodations, etc.

Thanks!

hi girl, i'm female and reasonably fit and like you haven't climbed much. Would be fun to go to KK with others with similar abilities. I've done some research on flights. Thinking of Jan 22/23- 27. PM if interested.

Hey, I have been wanting to trek mt Kinabalu. Could we arrange a trip some time soon? early Jan is possible, else during CNY would be fine with me as well.

And during this trip I would like to try water rafting, anyone up for it? if time allows for the rest of you, we could probably extend the trip and visit Thailand/koh samui

FYI. . .I haven't personally done the climb, have work colleagues that have.
It takes 2 days, the first day you climb so far camp overnight and get up and do the rest of the climb in the wee hours to be at the top to watch the sun rise. There may be other ways to do the climb, but this one is the only one I've heard speak of. To get to the Mt. it's about an hour drive from the township. I guess what I'm saying is to plan on at least 3 days. There are also white water rafting available nearby. Easy run I've done, had a blast! There is also a harder one.
Have fun!

Hey Folks,

Have done some mountain climbing before, this should be fun, plus river rafting will just add on.
Lemme know the dates if they are finalized...

Hi all, I'm interested for the CNY period too (preferably period between 28 Jan till 3 Feb)... been to KK twice and its a pretty nice trek... view from summit & upper slopes is great especially when weather is good... difficulty is easy-to-moderate so anyone with reasonable fitness should be able to do it... as for altitude concerns, most ppl are still ok as it just tops 4000m... ao long as u pace urselves...

btw another possible trek would be Rinjani in Lombok (near to Bali)... haven been there yet but from the pics i see, its pretty nice too...
Cheers
