DimWitKid - thanks for your post. We live in a new build with the screw-type coax and StarHub Max Ultimate. The last two days have been particularly slow. Even using the usual speed tester, we're down a lot.

Have you experienced the same?

Cheers, Mr. P

Mine is the StarHub Express in a building only a few years old but my connection to HK is still below 480kb/s. Locally i test at the full 8mb/s.

Speedtest of my connection tonight (on / around my post timing)

MaxO Ultimate.
Singapore
D/L - 68+ Mbps
U/L - 4.7 Mbps
Hong Kong
D/L - 3.6 to 4 Mbps
U/L - 3.2 to 3.9 Mbps
I'm downloading debian linux on utor while I'm doing this (sorry don't want to stop) so it may affect the measurement.

For the 10M ADSL it shows
Sing 884kbps down 114kbps up.
HK 154kbps down 42kbps up.

My feel is that tonight is just the same as usual.... Maybe I can retest my connection speed tomorrow to see if anything changes..

Somethings definately been wierd with StarHub these past few days - even this site is slow (although I know they have been having a few glitchy issues).

My results: also Max O Ultimate

SIN:
D/L 68.204
U/L 8.316

HKG:
D/L 3.574
U/L 1.931

Curse that my e-mail and web servers are in Germany and failover to Canada!

I'm surfing from a HDB, it gets iffy.
Your surfing connection will only be as fast as the weakest link, in the infrastructure, to your door. having 10MB or 12MB is just sales talk I'm afraid.

Also a wireless connection will slow down your surfing speed too! disconnect wireless and use the cable to improve speed. There has also been trouble with underwater cables, which are in the process of repair i believe. Slowness happens occassionally on singnet too, I solved the problem with disconnecting from wireless and also setting singnet proxy address. You may wish to try the same, setting the providers proxy address.

Just did another test at this hour.

MaxO is at 61+M down and 4M up for local, 3.4M down and 880kbps up for HK.

Singnet at 256.6k down and 54k up local, 182k down and 100k up HK.

I'm wondering if something is broke somewhere. I've tried with Ms C.'s business machine, her personal machine, my personal machine, and my business machine. Maybe something within SIN affecteing StarHub? The local sites are very slow, even when I turn off the usual security stuff.

KSL - we're wired here - gig-e lan cards

Thoughts/comments/flames? Mr. P

Try with the same link.

Mine was 56 dl and 780 up, on a 10MB but the ping was long at 450. The different Towns in Singapore are listed on this link

i feel inadequate

download - 8074 kb/s
upload - 703 kb/s
ping - 43ms

starhub 8mb express, using motorola VeCM and piggy back into a draytek vigor wireless router. for the speedtest.net results, no upload or download happening on any PCs.

but so far no issues with speed. i do a lot of file transfer (using ssft), download (iPlayer), remote network camera, remote access tools, VPN, VoIP, webcam, etc. :)
