Kindergarten for a 4 year old

Post by b_myhre » Sun, 26 Oct 2008 4:29 am

Hi everyone!
We are moving to Singapore from Norway in January. We have a son, 4,5 years old and a doughter, 11 months old. I don't want my son to start school or school like kindergarten yet. Does anyone know of a more "scandinavian" like kindergarten with more free play and outside activities than the others?

Thanx!

I have a norwegian friend who puts his kids in whitelodge. I have also heard very positive feedback about Chatsworth East campus.

But whatever the case is, do lots of reseach before you commit to anything. I would recommend you to read up different reviews about the various schools....there are a bunch of reviews at:

Good luck!

Thank you so much for your reply. Anyone know anything about OFS (overseas family school). They have schedruled 2x30min outside activities daily. And ofcourse experience with foreign kids with nonenglish language - but I guess all schools have that experience.

And my 11 year old stepdaughter is coming with us, any recommendations there?. She has learned a bit english in school, men far from fluently..

I think we will live close to Tanglin.

Is it nice over there? Have a lots of good times to look forward to?

Hi there

For pre schools it depends if you want 5 days a week or less. 5 days a week has quite a lot of choices but if you only want 2 or 3 days there is a lot less choice. Blue house is very reggio emilia so very unstructured but only have afternoon classs for 4+. Lock road is 5 days a week quite structured but has a lovely out door area. Eton house is partially reggio and has great outdoor facilities.

For your elder daughter better to look at waiting lists unless your company is willing to pay the jump the queue fee of $165000 at last report.

Singapore is lovely and quite a large scandanavian community but you will certainly notice a change in the weather coming out here in January.

As a parent, I know from experience that the Canadian International School has a great early childhood program, and is play-based--what they refer to as the exploratory years. They offer a full day for 4 year olds as well as ESL for non-native English speakers. Anyway there are quite a few Scandinavian students there actually. REcently they had their United Nations week and had over 50 countries represented. They are definately worth taking a look.
