Good British International School

Post by Primrose Hill » Thu, 23 Oct 2008 6:31 pm

There's a strong possibility that I maybe relocating from London to Singapore. My daughter is currently in a COE school in London, Year 5. She is 9.

Can someone help me out with some good school recommendations? Tanglin, I have made some prelim. enquiries, its mega impossible to get in. So, any recommendations, suggestions and advice is greatly appreciated

first, need to know where you gonna be living and working, then we can narrow down the schools. no point tell you there's a great school in the west and you gonna be working and living in the east. :)

British Schooling

Also it depends how long you are likely to stay, are you only interested in British schooling? If it's a short move of a year or two after which you return to the UK then I agree that sticking with the British system is best, however if you are staying longer or are likely to move elsewhere afterwards then it maybe worth considering other options.

How about Chatsworth? Heard it's pretty awesome, & the students really like it there. Ohh.. Tanglin trust is great too. but the long waiting list might be a turn off. (:

Just tryin to help,

This is going to be a long term/perm move for us. I am keen that my daughter remains in a British Int'l School that goes all the way to A levels. In terms of living arrangements, I am currently flexible, I am planning to rent until (a) the housing market shows some sense (b) something suitable pops along.

I don't mind travelling to school via MRT as she will be accompanied by her granny. So any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

Yeah. Chatsworth is good, Really. Check out the website if you wanna know more. The school's up to age 18 & there are IB courses & stuff like that. Also, it's at orchard which is centralized so it's kinda convenient, & there's a skatepark nearby where students hang out (:

I'm in the same boat as you but I have 3 kids all in the junior years. I'd be interested to know how you get on. javascript:emoticon(':???:')

Is there a Plan B on schools? From the tone of Chatsworth reply to my email, I get the distinct impression that there aren't that many places left. Tanglin School is out as their waiting list is longer than Chatsworth.

So, a plan B school will be quite good.

Sorry to hear that. I've heard of families who 'buy' their way through the waiting list. But i guess, that's not productive & there's not much left to do except wait. Or maybe try a different school, & if you don't like the system, transfer when the places are available. (Usually 1 year or so)

Try Tanglin. I believe they follow the British Curricullum unlike Chatsworth. Chatsworth school is also a bit of a dump to say the least for 20k+ per year...

My kids go to Chatsworth East campus - its certainly not a dump and they have settled well. Staff are really nice as is Principal and parents. You could always start off at an International School and transfer to British one (Tanglin) when place becomes available.

seen the one on the east coast which is in better nick than the one off orchard road which reminds me of the front of a old war hospital.

I'd also look a thier curriculum very closely (for young kids at least) - lots of time snacking, breaking and playing but no real substance of learning

I sent my son to a local schools prior to Tanglin and was very pleased with the facilities and curriculum when I compared it Chatsworth and it'll save you 20k a year

This is the response that I got from Tanglin.

"We have a long waiting list for year 6 in September 2009. It is difficult for us to say, at the moment, if she will secure a place. We will have a better idea in May – the deadline for all students to withdraw for September."

So, quidsin, your son is now in Tanglin or local school?
