Hi mums! Sorry not to have been posting for a while. How is everyone doing?
Plans for Chrissie and NYE?

I'm in my 28th week now and waddling along just fine
Trying to explore hypnobirthing options with Ginny at Fourtrimesters...

Have to warn you girls though. Most local doctors prefer delivery in the semi-supine position using epidural. I think it is just the most efficient way for them ( you know how Singapore is all about efficiency!) . Water births, home births, doulas are rare here if that's what you are used to back home.

So remember to speak about birth plans while shopping aroound for an Obgyn!

Hi Pumkinseed,

My name is Lia, and I just joined this website. I found you post below about different types of birth. I really want to have a natural birth, preferably not in the semi-supine position, if possible, and I'm hoping to not need an epidural. I'm really nervous about finding an obgyn who understands these interests. Have you found one? I don't know what hynobirthing is, as you mentioned in your above post, but do you have any suggestions for how I can find an obgyn who shares my interest?

I'm 5 weeks pregnant, and still in the states for a holiday. When I get back to Sing, I want to schedule my first doctor's appointment, but I don't know where to start in looking for a good obgyn.

You said:

How do I shop around for one?

Thanks for your help, and happy new year!

Lia

Hi Lia!

I googled for my obgyn and got lucky as we like him very much.

You can also go to the Singapore Motherhood Forum. They have many reviews on all the obgyns in Singapore. However it is a very messy website.
If you want someone who is pro natural birth and is willing to discuss your birth plan, I've heard Dr Paul Tseng at Thomson Medical Center is highly recommended.

For hynobirthing, go to www.fourtrimesters.com to find out more.
Again, the website is a little messy and outdated but I had a session with Ginny who runs the place and will be attending her course on hypnobirthing.
Hypnobirthing is essentially the belief that a pain free drug free birth can happen. The course teaches you to prep for delivery through breathing, mind control, support from your partner etc. I guess you would wikipedia or google for more info.

Good luck looking for a doctor :)

Hi

I've been seeing Dr LN Sim at the Thomson Medical Centre and has been really good and I think quite reasonable (we don't have medical insurance). She used to practice at KK before moving to Thomson.

I know a couple of people who use Dr Paul Tsang and I think that because he is recommended so much by expats he is now way too overloaded with patients and doesn't turn anybody away. I know one friend of mine who's pregnancy ended badly (will not go into detail on here) another another friend says she feels her appointments are a bit rushed and she doesn't get to ask all the questions she wants to cover.

I was 12 weeks pregnant (now 31 weeks) when I arrived in Singapore and did some research on hospitals and decided on Thomson - I didn't have a clue where to beging with doctors so just asked the lady on reception to recommend one to me.

You can chop and change as many times as you like if you feel you do not like your doctor.

Any other questions, please feel free to ask or PM me.

Hi there!

I am 30 and 11 weeks pregnant with our first child. I have been in Singapore for about 5 years now but oddly enough, I will be the first of my group of friends to get pregnant! I would love to meet any other expectant mothers (we will be due around the end of july) so that I have empathetic ears on how rough my first trimester has been so far! Not that I wouldn't love to meet mothers who have had a breeze of a pregnancy....I will just be envious! :0) I am also working, for now, so evenings and weekends would work best for me.

I also haven't a clue on where to go to get fittings for the nursery...I am not even sure I know what I need in the first place! So any recommendations would be appreciated!

The Four Trimesters looks interesting and is not too far from where we live!

I am usuing Dr Joan Thong Pao-Wen ( a recommendation from a friend of a friend) at Raffles hospital. So far both my husband and I really like her. The facilities at Raffles appear to be really great, and the nurses now know my name when they see me...I have been there 3 times. And all of the staff are very nice and pleasant. My husband really liked the fact that she studied in the UK ( I am American and he is English) and she is really good with him and remembers everything we have ever told her about us!...including our vacation plans!

Hope to find fun and support from other expectant moms!

Hi,

Parentlink is also a good place to look for hypnobirthing. They do classes. I'm not sure I'm going in for that, though - I'll probably just stick to the basic antenatal classes at Mother and Child.

As much as I like the idea of birth being painless, I don't think I'm going to be able to subscribe to that philosophy!

I'm always more than happy to meet other preggo moms, so email me at [email protected] if you'd like to meet up! I work as well, so I'm not available weekdays. But if you happen to be going for the yoga classes at 12noon on sundays at mother and child, i'd be in for coffee before or after! =)

Hi All

I came to Singapore 1 and a half year already and I am expecting my first child this year too. hope to meet you girl sometime.

TMC, feel that Dr KW Tan is very good, but believe me everytime u need to wait a long queue to see her. Been to Glenegles and other clinic, but bad experience.

Additional info, if u are struggling where to buy your maternity wear like me before. Check this web out www.coozfashion.com. I found some nice wear there. also www.coozgroup.com for your baby stuff needs.

Hi Hami2008!

Could you share a bit about your bad experience at Gleneagles?
I'm seeing Dr Brenda Low @ the Gleneagles and have decided to deliver there.
But would love to hear someone else's experience....

Thanks,
Jassie

I'm 29 and have a son with 18 month and I'm pregnant in 19. week. Originally I'm from Germany but my husband is suisse. So we lived the last 3 years there.
