hello;

as far as i know... once you have an unlocked iphone from the us, any sim card from singapore could be used as long as the gsm network works here (900 / 1800 networks).

on the other hand the sets sold in singapore can be used freely with all providers (also as far as i know).

just an advise, change the title of your post, any geek could answer your query not only americans :-D

calm down, i did answer your question, problem was that you did not specified the whole picture, i was assuming the following scenario:

you got an u.s. unlocked iphone and you were asking about using it *here*.

now, you are elaborating that someone needs to use the phone in the u.s. and so... totally a different scenario.

so, well, cant help you there

go to any cell phone service provider such as Cingular/AT&T, T-Mobile, etc. SIM card will cost you around USD 25 - 30 which you can purchase a load for certain # of minutes and text messages or you can get a monthly plan.

there're t-mo stores all over the states! cingular is now at&t again.

all other telcos are out (verizon, etc) coz they ain't GSM.

if you're asking this question, you should ask for prepay kits.

they can be found on ebay too... GSM prepay has no PTT.

He checked with every single store in the neighbourhood which sells cell phones, also with AT&T none of them sell SIM cards. He will contact APPLE. I guess this is the only solution so far....

they sell SIM cards, but only if you get a plan ( same as in Canada). But he just needs a SIM card like in singapore. Not a top up card. He used singaporian SIM card, but due to roaming it costs a lot.

i'm lost coz i don't know what you're talking about.

prepay sims are available in t-mobile stores. i bought one earlier this year.

if he's touring the country, that should suffice.

here's a store locator:

I'm confused as well because I've bought sim cards multiple times for guests/visitors that come to the US from overseas. The cost is about $25 or $30 for a top-up type. Not sure if one can get a monthly type of account without a US address and maybe social security # (not sure about this last one, but they do ask typically when calling customer service). Again AT&T and T-Mobile provide the SIM cards.
