Email business listings

Post by ukdesigner » Wed, 15 Oct 2008 5:25 pm

I am looking to do an email blast and I have hunted high and low to find a company that supplies business lists with email addresses.

I have only found one company that provides the list and they want S$2.50 each business name and address but NOT with the email address. Apart from this being extortionate (by my past uk prices anyway) it is not condusive to what I want to do.

So this goes out to all those - Strong Eagle, SMS and the like who may have knowledge as to where I can purchase this.

Thanks in advance.

Email blast me and I'll send your address to the nearest spam assassin.

Sorry, I don't take kindly to unsolicited email.

Cheers.

sorry you don't like it but it's a legitimate way to advertise and it would be handled correctly so need to be funny about it.

Email blasts work and I'm looking to expand my business so this is a convenient way to do it.

Better to say nothing if you don't have anything worthwhile to contribute than to get all grumpy. You used to be so helpful.

Now I know why I've stayed away from this site for a while.

Think I'll de-register myself. Thanks for nothing.

Anyone who sends me unsolicited commercial email is spamming and I always report them. Why should you not be considered spam?

so what's the difference then to an email and a leaflet that's dropped in your letterbox?

Actually there's none but people make it out to be. So why not report the companies that send you an unsolicited letter or leaflet or brochure!!

I did slightly better than than. I caught one of the letter box stuffers and politely let them know (NOT) the next time I caught them stuffing unrequested flyers and other BS in my mailbox I'd make 'em eat them. I've noticed a decidedly smaller influx of garbage in my mailbox now. Sure wish I could do that to online spammers.

Way I see it is if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem!

There is a difference between receiving mail you wish to and in the normal course of events and some pest or groups of pests who persistently send unwanted garbage! In some cases as once happened to be there so much spam in my e-mail expected and wanted mail could not be sent with resulted in my having to obtain a new e-mail address! :x

Technically speaking, email blasts are not illegal, provided certain measures are taken. In Singapore, the advertiser is required to prefix mail blasts with [ADV] to indicate the type of mail as well as offer a choice to opt out from further correspondence.

Not every business can rely solely on word of mouth and referrals to get by. As long as you give out your email address in any way, shape or form, the onus is upon you to have a reliable spam filter. I don't understand why people get all up in arms with advertisers who are merely trying to drum up business when the real "problem" is that there are companies out there making a profit with your contact details.

That said, I don't buy email addresses as there are far better (and acceptable) ways to reach out to the masses. E-mail marketing has a bad rep thanks to the penis enlargement and mail order bride industries. That doesn't mean it's a bad or unethical method, just that it raises the bar on how it is used.

You have therefore contradicted your own argument and as for the onus being on the individual to have an 'acceptable spam filter' you should remember not everybody has that technical capability or would know how to use any available software. The bad reputation e-mail has, has nothing to with penis enlargement and mail order brides, that's just you looking for an excuse to justify sending unwanted trollop!

how exactly have I contradicted myself? I have simply stated my own opinions on the matter, you have zero knowledge of what I do or not do. I'd appreciate if you got a hold of yourself before jumping on someone's throat.

This very website sends out marketing e-mails to promote their real estate business as well as their sponsor services. Is hiding terms and conditions behind another service any more ethical? It's the 21st century and there is simply no excuse to not know how to navigate a very basic internet service like e-mails.

You yourself said: 'if you give out your e-mail address in any shape or form the onus is on you to have an acceptable spam filter.' In the same post you also said 'there are far better (and acceptable) ways to reach out to the masses. Therefore the more acceptable ways should be used. I have no interest in what you do and as for your uppity reply it would be good idea if you would remember this is a public forum not a place for banana or anybody else to foist his or her own ideology down everybody else's throat.

Is that not what you're doing though? You had a bad experience with spam and decided every single email marketer is the devil's spawn. And that everyone has to agree with you or else. Pot, meet kettle?

In fact, if anyone is foisting his or her own ideology down anyone's throat, it would be you. All the TS wanted was suggestions and all I did was to offer a rather objective response. In my opinion anyway. You are the one that's jumping up and down and generally throwing a tantrum. Financial crisis getting you down?

Oh dear run out of constructive arguments have you? No I did not decide 'every single email marketer, is the devil's spawn.' I have watched more than one documentary and talked to many a stranger who I find has exactly the same feelings, something you obviously are or wish to remain oblivious too. Why am I not surprised?

I haven't even offered an ideology. :o

Statements like the one above show just how desperate you are when somebody disagrees with you, as for the financial crisis I am in some respects having a good laugh. Seems you are the one throwing a tantrum and being got down by the financial crisis.

Ps: Hope you never send me an e-mail. :P

I don't know Plavt, why aren't you? If I were to hazard a guess, it would be that you failed to comprehend my first post. But hey, you've watched many documentaries and talked to strangers. You must be right. Whatever it is you're implying.

Not really. I'm actually hoping the pound drops further. But that's besides the point. Read the whole thread again and perhaps you might see that you were showing uncalled for aggression. What happened Plavt? You used to be much more objective.

PS: don't worry, I won't.
