Née en liberté, as Oz suggested, would be grammaticaly correct but in french, written this way, it sounds more like the kind of expressions we usually use to refer to animals, not humans, so i would advice not to use it unless your friend is an animal born in wild and now living in captivity.
Née libre would be fine aswell.
