What will the global financial crisis affect expats in Sing

If the global financial crisis is really affecting singapore, then we might expect an outflow of expats, hence possibly lower rent, shorter waitlists for a few popular schools?

Would like to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks

Lets hope so!
Although personally amongst my expat friends (all in finance), no-one has actually been let go or told future contracts won't exist. So I haven't really heard of any first-hand experiences.....anyone else?

I have heard from a few friends who have been told they are going home early.
Things are catching up here....it will take time, but when it hits here...it will hurt!

We've been house hunting and rents have halved in the above S$10k per month category (the agents are showing us homes asking S$30k but will accept half that or consider any "firm" offer). Been watching the SPIO website for the black and whites, the govt is definitely not getting their asking prices (one asking 28k got 14k). The agents tell me quite a number will be coming up.

Guess that reflects some people shifting out?

Lots of International Schools waitlists have dried up and it seems to me since dec alot of banking and finance , shipping expats are beginning to lose their jobs.

Had three friends who hubbies have lost their jobs in the last week and i was here last economic crisis and it beginning to feel like a repeat episode.
