Veterinarian near Newton/Novena?

Post by JimH5 » Sat, 11 Oct 2008 10:06 pm

I'm looking for help in finding a veterinarian for our cat. We live in the Newton/Novena area--though we'd taxi anywhere for a good one.

Any referrals would be much appreciated!

there're two "animal hospitals" just by St Joseph Institution, before the malcom road police post.

i can't remember the names (might one be James Tan Animal Hospital? something like that...), but here're directions from a known landmark:

start at the bus stop opposite Novena Church

go straight along thomson road (towards Ang Mo Kio)

turn left into whitley road (after Thomson Medical Center and the Telecom Building)

keep left the whole way until you see the next exit (look out for smoke stacks/chimneys).

right by the off ramp there's a pet hospital on the right, and another on the left.

my own experience at both places have never been good, so i don't enthusiastically recommend them.

i like the one at clementi, "The Animal Clinic."

Blk 109 Clementi St 11 #01-31
Tel: 67763450

the vets there are always nice. for more choices, you can pick from this website:

There are at least 2 vets on Balestier Road, which is not far from where you are:

Companion Animal Surgery
10 Boon Teck Rd. (located just off Belastier Road)
Tel: 6255 7950

Don't remember the name of the other one, but it is on Balestier Road somewhere opposite Balestier Point.

Moved away from that area 5 years ago, so haven't been there since.

In the Holland Village area, The Veterinary Clinic seems OK.
Address: 31a Lorong Liput

A Google search should turn up a few sites with lists of other vets.

Check the link at the bottom of any of sundaymorningstaples' posts:
http://www.keynote-engineers.net/useful_links.html

The list of vets is 2/3rds of the way down on the right side of the page.

SLA has a useful map site for finding any address:

Thanks very much for your references. I'll make some phone calls to get an appointment and after our visit, I'll post a review.

Thanks again for the references. . .

I did go to the Animal Recovery Veterinary Centre at 288 Balestier yesterday. I had a 10:30 appointment, but there was an unforeseen problem that pushed a number of appointments back. I was able to see a vet at 11:30.

There were a lot of people and pets in this office, so it appears to be well regarded--and for good reason.

The staff was professional and courteous. Our vet, Dr. Nora Koa Su-ching, was charming and very skilled.

The waiting room and exam rooms were very small. There were some other animals in crates and cages in our exam room, which you wouldn't find in the US--but regardless, it was clean and quick and we were done in a good amount of time.

They stock Hill's prescription products, Frontline, etc. Everything you'd find in the US.

Highly recommended!
