expat on the way
My family and I (wife+I 30's, 1 yr old, 10 yr old) are headed to Singapore from the US soon for 6 mo. expat assignment. Work is paying for pretty much everything and have provided 14 condos to choose from once we get there. I've been there twice over the years and have an idea of where to stay, but would like some local opinions.
Several condos are around Newton and Serangoon MRT's, but maps do not show much shopping, food, activities nearby. Is this accurate? Having my wife carting to kids around over a long distance for shopping is not appealing.
2 are near Bugis MRT/Sim Lim, my preferred area just based off of what I recall and see on the maps for easy access to many things including work near the new Boon Keng station.
Other locations include Sengkang (too far North?) and Toa Payoh.
Your thoughts for an Ang Mo heading over?

Living in Toa Payoh is the best
My pick of the choice is TOA PAYOH,. Good amenities, good food.

Great to see an fellow American moving to the great city of Singapore. I am moving there in couple of months and am contemplating renting a condo on Claymore Road. It is close to the American Club and the Thai Embassy and is next to the Meritas Hotel.
Can someone please tell me what sort of neighborhood it is? Are there restaurants and clubs? Expats?

Orchard area - Claymore
The Claymore area is basically within the Orchard (town) area. You'll probably go by foot for everything, from shopping to food, and even work because of the convenience.Guest wrote:Great to see an fellow American moving to the great city of Singapore. It is of course the most expensive area to live in because of the location, but it's always most expats desired location to live in.
