Help!!! Planning to go to 2 singapore to find job....

Post by JobSeeker13 » Tue, 07 Oct 2008 1:00 pm

Would anyone be kind to help me out on few things.
1. How hard or easy to get a job if your a fresh graduate and no work experience except for the On-The-Job-Training in Semiconductor Company and Telecommunication Company.
2. I am planning to start a career in here. I am a graduate of BACHELOR OF SCIENCE in ELECTRONICS AND COMMUNICATIONS ENGINEERING, and a Diploma in ELECTRONICS COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY. I look in MOM site and see the list of University qualified but my University is not included in it, even it is a State University in the Philippines (TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES-MANILA). Why is my University not Listed?
3. I am also a foreign residing from Philippines and i have a relative residing in Singapore so accommodation is not a problem

Please help me out on how can i find job in here before in go there. And the process that i should follow... Thank you for the Help.
I appreciate it with all my heart. :D :D :D

I'm a fresh grad, double masters degree, EPEC (so my education is recognized), 6 moths job exp and 3 in nonprofit org, and DP holder - and still, after sending like 30-40 resumes, still no job, not even a damn reply.

So no, I don't think you can get a job here. Sorry. Maybe when you get 2-3 years of experience.

Your qualification msut be recognised by MOM as the first step when prospective employer apply for working permit for you. otherwise it would be very difficult.

Because the Singapore government, rightly or wrongly, believes that the curriculum at this university is not robust enough, not challenging enough, and/or not broad enough to consider its graduates to be "real" bachelor of science degree holders.

It would require an appeal on the part of the university to get MOM to change and/or you would need to demonstrate significant extra curricular achievement/training to get approved.

Right now, I think it will be tough for you. Already you must compete against Singapore graduates who will take preference over foreign talent, all other things being equal, and you are now faced with an economic downturn that will put semi-conductor and other electronics firms in a pull back mode.

My last paragraph means that MOM will issue a work permit/EP ONLY if the company requesting it can show that they cannot find the talent in Singapore. If you are a fresh graduate this is very hard to prove up because you are pretty much equal to Singapore university graduates.

As for your school, I don't know why they think that your university is a poor one but I assure you they do; otherwise it would be on the list of accepted universities.

So your saying that i will have a hard time finding job cause i am a fresh graduate? and if ever i find one my employer will have a hard time applying for my EP?

Well, to be honest, if you still don't get it, I sure wouldn't be interested in hiring you as you do not seem to be able to grasp reasonably simple English. Strong Eagle has spelled it out so well for you. I would suggest that you go back and read it several more times...... #-o

In short and as I suspected (but had no information), Singapore does not recognize degrees acquired in The Philippines neither does the UK. That is why so many Filipino graduates work here as cleaners. Tough I know but until the educational institutes ratify the problem that is how it will remain. Do understand even those with acceptable degrees and experience are in for a tough time. :(

Actually, Philippines degrees are only recognized as the equivalent of local, 3 year, Polytechnic Diplomas even though the degree courses in the Philippines are usually 5 years. It's the same for those coming from India. The majority of degree aren't recognized as "acceptable". Why do you think so many Indians get Masters degrees from Aust, Canada, the US or the UK.

I know, that's what I meant but I am a little surprised at your use of the word 'majority' on the other hand I have never made an analytical survey of the Universities from which Singapore accepts degrees - no need to.

Oh dear having a good sulk are you? Nobody is degrading anybody or any country and humanity has nothing to do with any of the statements made above. You are the victim of you own inability to comprehend simple English and as such leave yourself open to considerable doubt about your abilities. I do not know what you mean when you say grammatical errors or misinterpret what you meant.

I will try once more: All countries set their own criteria as to the qualifications of foreign job applicants and which Universities of those countries administer degrees/qualifications they deem suitable. Simple as that.

Anyway, i do not plan on arguing. Where going out of the topic. Thank you for the information you have given. I'll just get experience to be a more skilled in my field of work.
