Proof of cost of living increase of moving from LV to Spore.

Post by Spgbound » Wed, 01 Oct 2008 9:45 am

My company is consdering moving me from Las Vegas to Singapore for an IT position. In preparation for potential salary / package negotiation I am looking for some numbers to hang my hat on. I've found a lot of helpul posts detailing what people actually spend by expense category but am looking for benchmark data. Tried so search for cost-of-living and salary-relocation calculators on-line but didn't find anything international. Thanks for your help.

Hi Sgbound! Great to have another US-er around. Funny you'll be coming from LV where I've heard the housing market is pretty bad. You'll be coming to a housing market unlike anything you could imagine. Houses here are generally around $8,000 (that would be CHEAP) to $50,000 per month. Nice condos start at $3,500 a month in outlying areas. Cars are ridiculously expensive and taxi fees are going up. Cooked food is generally not too expensive if you eat locally. There are ways to cut costs, especially if you're single and don't mind sharing a place. But if you're negotiating, go on the high side for accomodation and try to get a transportation budget too. Those are your two biggest expenses.

Good luck!

If I understand correctly, you're looking for "official" data. Have you heard about the mercer cost of living survey?
