Fish and Meat

Post by Currymeister » Mon, 29 Sep 2008 11:16 pm

Has anyone come across a butcher or fishmonger in Singapore?

Never seen either. Especially interested in finding a fishmonger though. I really miss a nice piece of swordfish.

I tried searching the forum for Butchers and got plastic surgeons and dentists.

CurryM - we use www.thebutcher.com.sh - very helpful, great produce, but expensive as usual! Highly recommend them. Oh, free delivery if you order over $100 online. HTH, P

If you'd rather avoid the wet market:

1. The butcher (they also deliver, located at Holland village)

http://www.thebutcher.com.sg

2. espirito santo- they have a couple of shops, one at the basement of Great World City.

We don't eat fish that much but friends told us that there is a Japanese supermarket at Liang court which sells excellent fish.

Ben Foods over at Jurong have great meat:

http://www.benfoods.com/

Can only shop on a Saturday between 10 - noon though ..... but worth it. Their meat is of superior quality and no where near the cost of what it is in the supermarket. They also sell 'real' cheese, wines and some other food things.

Across the road from Ben Foods there is another wholesaler for fish. Cannot remember the name though.

The only place worth going for fresh meat and fish is the swiss butchery and right next door is a very good fish mongers greenwood fish market ( i think thats the name ) both in greenwood avenue.

Be warned not cheap but the Q of expats and locals outside the shop on weekends is a good sign.

I have heard Swiss butchery been having a bit of internal infighting, and the original partner set up his own called hubert butchers (sp?) next to tanglin mall in the friven shop but have never tried it.

Many thanks for all the replies! I was amazed at the cost of mince in the supermarket, and the lack of variety, so I am relieved that we can find a butcher afterall.

Cheers!

I used Thebutcher.com.sg for lamb yesterday and I must say although it was not cheap it was very good. Almost as good as my butchers' in London. And they deliver.

You'll be even more amazed at the cost at the butchery. Flying in dead flesh aint cheap. Fish market is good as well. There is also a new butchery on Bukit Timah, in the small center right past Coronation Plaza... same place as Old Brown Shoe. Haven't bought yet, but meat looks good, and offer US beef as well as Ozzie beef... a relative rarity.

Cheers.

Hi! Do try out 'Meat The Butcher'. It's a few doors away from the Old Brown Shoe pub along Bukit Timah Road (beside Coronation Plaza).

They have a good range of fresh meats, sausages and hams. I tried the roasted turkey from them yesterday and it tastes really good! And the price is really affordable as compared to the other butcheries.

Their tel number is 64651651
