any use the Bugaboo Chameleon?

Post by dd_din » Fri, 12 Sep 2008 2:01 pm

Hi, we're expecting our first baby, and are really interested in the Bugaboo Cameleon. However, we've read mixed reviews - does anyone have one? Do you like it? Is it really a hassle trying to break the stroller down?
Any feedback would be great - thanks!

Its great for off roading /bumpy grass/ sandy beaches and very comfi for baby but yes major pain in the butt to collapse requiring both hands and feet, you also end up with two separate parts, so if you count the baby in your arm you have to lug three items around. They even give you a DVD on how to do it. Ask the guys in the shop to show you and have a go yourself. Then ask them to pack it in the travel bag that will be a real challenge for the shop staff (you have to remove the wheels etc.)

Once you get the hang of it, its OK, but it is a big pram not really suitable for crowded public transport use. I use two prams, a Quinny Zap for travel and zipping around town and the bugaboo for the rest of the time.

For the new born we used the maxicosy car seat that fits both the ZAP and Bugaboo, dont be fooled by the attachment cot its works great when on the pram, you can even use it as a cot by your bed, but you cant take it off with the baby in and rest it on the floor the cot has no base frame so collapses flat.

Its like a Range Rover, big, heavy, hard to park, but very comfy.

Like the range rover its a pain, but I love it and would not swop it.

Plus you can change the colors when you get fed up with it, and if the suns in baby face you can swival the whole seat around so its in the shade and facing you.

We have the Chameleon for our 4 month old and I have to agree it can be a bit fiddly particularly if you are hauling it in and out of cabs. What I used to do before we got a car was to use the frame with the Maxi-cosi car seat that way I can strap the little one in cab and just collapse the frame and little one is still safe in car seat. You do have to collapse it and put it together a few times before you get the hang of it but I am pleased with it and would not swap it for any other.

After a while it becomes easier but you do have to bear in mind that it is not the easiest pushchair to get around with in the crowds and I have also found that some escalators (not many but some) are not wide enough for the frame.

My little one loves it and it is very comfy for him.

Hi - we love ours!! only problem was with the stroller not fitting into the trunks of some smaller cars and that it is not easy to collapse. But overall vefy well constructed and comfortable especially when baby is sleeping cos you can change the positions of the chassis.

An option (if you have it) is the Quinny Buzz which has an automatic collapse system so you can do it at the push of a button - not sure if they sell it in singapore - only problem is that it is not as manoeuvreable as the bugaboo

We bought the Chameleon and got accustomed to it before our baby boy arrived :)

That said, yes at first, you will be a bit in awe, but once you get used to it, you will be handling it like a pro.

Our son loves it, always comfortable, and we've used it in snow, sand, city, and forrest trails. That baby goes everywhere, great buy, and will soon begetting stored till baby #2 arrives.. lol.

If you will do mostly city handling, you can also look into the Bugaboo Bee, although we don't think its anywhere as nice as the Chameleon.

Good luck!

I echo the thoughts of the above posters and add that we've just bought a Bugaboo Bee.

We bought it because you can collapse it one handed and it's smaller so is better in crowded areas, however the ride quality is not nearly so good as the Chameleon (which has the bigger wheels with proper suspension) so it's not as comfortable and much harder to maneuvre around the dodgy suburban pavements in our part of town.

Overall I'd say the Chameleon was brilliant for our 1st year, despite the annoying collapse mechanism, and will still be used for longer walks.

Way to revive a 3 yr old post, but I'm wonder where in Singapore could one take a look at/purchase a Bugaboo stroller?

I've been searching around quite a bit but to no avail, and would greatly appreciate any leads.

thanks :)

Try Mothercare. The flagship store at HarbourFront is a good place. They'll be happy to demonstrate the stroller to you.

I've also bought bugaboo but bee stroller 'cause I wanted it to be narrow and to be able to collapse easily with baby in one hand. However, I find it not very suitable for a newborn. At least I think I will use it for cabs, shopping in the city, travelling and public places. I hope I will get enough money to buy cameleon as a main pram. It's only hard to choose colours when there are so many of them! I wish I could use black edition in Singapore, if it only weren't so hot! And I wish that there were more discounts and promotions available for Bugaboo brand.
For now I have found Bugaboo in Motherswork, First Few Years, Mothercare.
