helper asks the price of everything i buy

Post by scoobydoo » Fri, 12 Sep 2008 1:25 pm

she joined us abt 2 weeks ago n everytime i buy something, or even pick it up to see the price of it she says maam how much is it for.
today my daughters high chair came and she says maam how much. i feel bad. i mean the cost of the highchair is almost as much as her whole months salary. but its just rude to ask!!
wot can i say?? i dont want to take her out when i go shopping coz of this reason!!

Maybe she not good with numbers and she thinks this is a good way to learn?
it could be her way of starting a conversation.

Or it could be genuine amazement, if we were suddenly whisked off to a place where people spend 4000 bucks on milk, 20,000 on baby chairs, 2000 bucks on a bottle of drinking water we would be amazed and keep asking how much that bowl of pasta cost.

Why not have a chat with her, and ask her why she keeps asking ? Point out where you come from its rude to ask.

I had the same problem. In fact I don't think I will ever get used to having helper/s in the house. I ended up telling my helper that though I liked it when she asked me questions (it meant she wanted to learn), I did not like it when she asked me how much something was because it wouldn't benefit her in anyway. Now she has started asking me if things are new or where I bought them from...oooo well!

but dont we do it all with price comparison? for example, you go anywhere in the world and you want to compare the price of a big mac, just to check if it is cheaper or more expensive than your home country.

btw, my local chicken rice is S$2.50. how much is yours?

Mine's $3.00 but I get extra chicken & no bones and a big bag of black duck rice sauce and extra chili. (Cause he remembers me from when I used to act for SBC/TCS/MediaCorp).
