Irish 17 year old moving for a year...

Post by Mop102 » Tue, 26 Aug 2008 12:12 am

Hi,

I have an uncle in Sinapore along with a wife.

I am Irish and have just turned 17 so i have decided to take a year out before college and go to sinapore. My uncle has his own business so i am sorted for a job.

I was just wondering will i adapt to the life?Is there many expats my age??

What is singapore like for clothes shopping??!

What is the island and the people like in general?

Thanks.

Hi there! Its a great opportunity for you to come and spend so long away. There are a lot of expats your age (waiting lists on the schools here) but most of them will be in school and not holidaying and taking a break like you are.
If you like clubbing it will be very difficult at age 17 as the age limits are more strict here than the UK or Ireland.
Clothes shopping can be great or a nightmare depending on your size and taste. Many of the cheaper clothes come in Asian sizes which make a 10-12 a large (gasp!), but there are plenty of imported clothes and tonnes of malls!
Singapore in general is great but it is very small and if you are here for a year you might want to include in your budget some trips to the surrounding countries - Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia etc. there you will meet more "backpacker" teens and young people.
I suppose it all depends what you have in mind for your year. Singapore is really just like a city, so if you can spend a year in a city without a day job or schooling then it will be fine.
Good Luck and happy travelling :-)

I know this is an old post, but i can't help but notice that i think you're the same age as me haha. (Year 1991 right?). Anw, just wanna know how you spent your time here, coz i was practically bored to tears during the holidays & I sooo need to socialize once in a while. School is just too much of a drag ):

LOL, out of the 7k of your post, I think 6.5k is you say just ''Please use the search function on this site. Most question will be answered.''

I seem to find a lot of thread on this forum just dies once someone tells them to search. So every time I do a search, its usually just a thread telling me to do a search

Is there not just a option for the Mods to combine threads which are similar, instead of having lots of threads telling people to do a search and look elsewhere ??
