Want to move but can I

Post by bostonT2 » Fri, 22 Aug 2008 12:44 pm

Hey Folks,

I've been here for 6 months now and signed a 2 year lease w/ a diplomatic exit clause after 12 months. However, now i don't really like my place that much. I know i know what you are going to say but hind sight is 20-20...

i want to know if there is any option for me to move out w/o losing my deposit. I'm currently living near bugis in a 1 bedroom (you guys call it studio) apartment and would like to move to one of the newer condos in the city (novena/cbd). Again, i don't know if this is possible but would appericiate any creative ideas you may have.

best
semi lost in translation...

Perhaps someone could 'rent' that 1BR place from you, whilst you move to another place? I may be quite interested if you want to stay in your apartment until feb next year :p

a 1-bedroom/studio apartment should be hot property. seems a lot of people moaning about not finding a 1-bedroom/studio apartment!

well, a contract is a contract, but contract can be broken provided both party comes to an agreement. guessed you will have to talk nicely to the landlord. expect to cough up some extra money to conpensate the landlord, for example the agent fees, etc, etc, etc.

As durain said, you are in fact liable to lose more than your deposit, which should never be linked to your rental payments.

It is legally strictly to be used only for deductions for repair works to the property, if any upon lease termination and nothing else.

Nevertheless, don't buy the BS that agents tell you about you the tenant being liable for all rental payment till the end of the agreement if you break it. Tell them to try it!
