ISS International School

Post by Nibbs » Thu, 21 Aug 2008 10:29 pm

I'm considering a move to Singapore with my three children, we are British and have spent the last three years in Japan. My kids have been in an IB school during that time and one of them has never been to school in the UK. I want to keep them in an IB school I've spent the day trawling school websites and searching past posts on various singapore forums and have come up with 4 IB schools that go to right through to High School. Of these I am most interested in Canadian IS and ISS.

ISS appears cheaper than the other schools and gives a discount for the third child and I just wondered if there were any reasons for this? I notice that the school does not apear to be accredited by WASC or CIS and there aren't many photos of facilities of the website, does anyone know more about this school?

Thanks for any input.

2 of my daughters went to ISS (pre-K and Gr 2) from November of last year until the end of the school year in June. Now, they are in SAS.

Overall the experience was very good. Teachers were caring, classes were not overcrowded, student population was small enough that teachers were aware and knew the students. Having said this, it unfortunately does not have enough facilities to serve the students. It's a very small campus and cannot expand. They have to bus the kids to an off-campus swim facility and off-campus auditorium for large events.

Good luck.

Thanks, I thought that might be the case I've looked at maps of the campus and it does seem small compared to OFS next door. However, the school does have all the necessary accreditations in place and when I contacted them for information they were extremely helpful unlike another school which took a week to send a very basic reply.

I'm glad you had a good experience there, are the facilities they do have very old or is the issue just a lack of space?

Thanks

It did not seem very old. They do have some facilities, but small. They have libraries, computer labs, playgrounds, etc. For swimming (PE) and swimming events, they use the Delta sports complex facility. For the auditorium, we went to another facility - cannot remember the name of the place. It's just a small campus.

My daughter's teachers were very caring, so it was a good environment for the kids.
