So, I just emailed an agent and asked for her contact details, as I wanted to start compiling a potential list. This was my reply:
Hi,
Thank you for your message in share-accommodation..
You have noted that you are compiling a list of agents. I'm not sure if that's the norm in Australia as it seems many Australian clients work this way, but it is not recommended here in Singapore as doing so will get you blacklisted. This has happened to an Australian lady recently who had been liaising with various agents at a time. We agents have been informed and warned of her name and profile.
Therefore, i would suggest you stick to 1 agent to help you out. Of course if she/he is not reliable then go on to another.
Hope you would heed my advice
Is this true? I haven't heard of such a thing anywhere in the world

Complete bollocks (excuse my french) The agent is trying to con you into making you use them as a sole agent so you, the tenant, will have to pay their fees rather than the LL or the co-broking agent!

If you think it's not done here, just read the classifieds and see the number of co-brokered places. That means multiple agents.

What absolute rubbish. This agent seems frightened of good competition to me. Use as many agents as you can and you will quite often get much better results. There is no such rule in Singapore and in fact any agent saying that should themselves be "blacklisted" and reported to her parent Agent.

Just wanted to add my 2cents, even though it's the same as everyone else -- what that agent told you is crap, it's very common to use multiple agents, and a good way to find a good deal

I am looking for a place to rent,
my agent came back and said,

I can shortlist some properties for you to visit and decide with me. And I’ll appreciate if you will stay with me and not ‘use’ other estate agents’ services.
