Cost of setting up in Singapore

Post by middle1nz » Sun, 17 Aug 2008 9:48 am

We are two teachers who are looking to move to Singapore once we secure full time teaching contracts with two young children, aged 2 and 4.

Is it really expensive to set up upon arrival? i.e. bonds, uniforms etc for accommodation - even though we have package deal that includes accommodation allowance?

Would we need to come over a month prior to starting our contracts? I don't know whether we will be able to afford to do this, both timewise and cost - but want the move to be as low stress as poss given we plan to hire a live in maid.

Many thanks

Michelle from NZ

The above link should be useful. Live-in maids are usually Foreign Domestic Maids. Besides their salary, the government imposes a levy when employing these maids. There's also a bond to be paid but you can take an insurance in place of this bond.
