Might be a wee bit difficult to help from India though......

SMS: I may not be in Singapore but my contacts certainly are ;)

ifonly: Oh this is tricky..the electronics industry is at a sunset stage (I'm in the same industry myself!) If it's the IT industry, jobs are aplenty. Don't mean to put a damper, but to the best of my knowledge, production plants are mostly managed by locals/Malaysians, and companies are looking towards Cambodia/Laos and Vietnam to build plants.
there are huge amounts of locals and expats from India and China with such backgrounds willing to work for relatively lower salaries
^^ Such jobs will be taken by Indian/Chinese nationals.

Would it be a better option to remain in Aus instead?

Miss Swan,

Looks like remaining in Aus might be better then. I was wondering... wouldnt companies need senior embedded software engineers to do the coding, prototyping, etc? Or even in the R&D? Maybe it is cheaper to get them from China and India too?

Hi ifonly, yeah they might need software engineers but you're right, it is cheaper to recruit from China & India (a dime a dozen there too).

On the up side, Australia's also a great place to raise your baby :)

hi ifonly,
I am the at the same situation as you are. My husband is Irish and I am Singaporean. We are thinking of going back to Sg and since I am away for that long I have lost touch with Sg things as well.

But when I look at your post I realise that you have to think about the expenses between Oz and Sg which one will be more ex for the salary your husband is looking for. Well, in this case my hub is looking around the same amount after the exhange rate. But the standard of living in Ireland is higher than Sg. There are pros and cons I suppose.

As you said you just have ur baby and I have 2 young girls myself and I know it is hard to have no helping hands around you when you need one. To say we are really in the same boat, my mother passed away as well few yrs ago but still I would want to go back to Sg to spend some time with my family as my children are the only grandchildren in the family so it will be nice for my father.

Anyway, back to the topic my hub will be on pharma production area but still when I looked around for him they mostly need Singaporeans/PR. And if applying a job as a PR is better but slightly lower wages will there there be better benefits? As for the CPF contribution will it be higher which at the moment I am confused abt the system. I suppose there are a lot of things to think about and weigh the pros and cons.
