How much do you trust these online forums.

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and would like to find out how much I can trust all the advices given on the discussion board.

Depends on what kind of advise you are after. You can usually tell very quickly the ones that you can rely on. If you aren't sure just check through their previous postings.

Most people tend to advise on what they know. There are some that try and give complete and utter rubbish advise but they are found out pretty quickly!

Agree with Saint - when we first started here we took our time to research, research, research. This forum ended up providing some excellent advice. You soon find out who you can trust.

Remember also that times do change so it's ultimately your own responsibility to do as much research as possible. We'll try and help, and our only motivation is to help out people in the same way we were helped out. Beware of some peoples motives, however!

Saint, s2a, durain have it right... when you see a post by a poster check all the poster's other posts. You'll soon know the BS'ers.

Consider also: Many of the competent posters post what they know from personal experience... at least that is my place. Almost all posts are speculative in nature... we don't run the gov't... and we don't actually know how things work... we just chime in with individual anecdotal evidence.

Me? I am a guy you can trust. Nod... nod... wink... wink. Seriously, like the others have said, there are SME's that are worth listening to, even if their advice is subjective.

personally, I reckon forums are like bars. you know what they say: believe half of what you read, none of what you hear and the opposite of what you hear in bars.

I do agree you have to do your own research and it's pretty obvious who are the people who bs and who are really sincere in helping others.

When i posted this thread, what i had in mind wasn't sth extreme like lying about being with the govt and stuff, we all have common sense and will more or less be able to tell who is lying and who is not. more like .... hmmm... ok, an example:

"Where should I go to if I want to have good and cheap dimsum?"

I understand that it can be pretty subjective and people usually answer based on their personal experience. what I meant was, how often would you guys give it a try if people in this forum (or any forum for that matter) recommend the place to you?

This has nothing to do with trust. It's about taste. How can you trust taste? And why would anyone not be trusted on their personal taste?
