Can anyone clarify the chewing gum issue?

We will be relocating to Singapore in 2 weeks, very tight time frame by hubby's company... So I have not had 6 or 4 or even 2 months to research schools, culture, anything !
I was just sent an email listing things to watch out for, in shipping and transporting and on the list was chewing gum of any type.

This is the first time I realized that chewing gum was actually prohibited, and, I am told, is not sold there at all! Is this true?

SOME PEOPLE TRY TO TURN BACK THEIR ODOMETERS. NOT ME. I WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW WHY I LOOK THIS WAY. I'VE TRAVELED A LONG WAY, AND SOME OF THE ROADS WEREN'T PAVED. ~ Will Rogers
