Bringing my dog to the US

Post by art11461 » Sun, 12 Jun 2011 7:04 pm

Hi everyone,

I am relocating to Houston, Texas from Singapore in 2 months' time and would like to bring my dog along with me. Wonder if anyone can offer some advice with regards to the following:

- requirements for bringing a dog into the US
- best relocation company to work with

Please feel free to share your own experiences too.

Thank you and cheers,
Rachel

Hi Rachel,

I was reading up on bringing dogs back to Singapore (Am considering if I should get a dog), and chanced upon your post.

I've just relocated to Houston from Singapore too with my husband a few days ago! He works for Shell. Are you working in Houston?

Based on your post date I assume youve been here slightly longer than us. Any tips on where to stay?

Couldnt send you a PM but hope to hear from you!

Jiali

Hi K. I, too, will be bring my dog from the US to Singapore (end of Jan) but I thought you might want to know that dogs coming from the US can qualify for a 10 day quarantine. It requires extra shots etc but definitely something you should look into.

Thanks to Poodlek (poster on this board), here is a link to the AVA which details out what you need
http://www.ava.gov.sg/AnimalsPetSector/ ... eterinary1

I am using World Care Pet (recommended through my ocmpany) and they've been excellent in guiding me through the process. It's definitely a bit overwhelming at first but you just have to work backwards from the time you want your dog to arrive in Singapore.

I agree with the other poster that although this is going to be tough, it's much better than the alternative of not bringing him at all!

Now, I just have to figure out the dog walking/day care situation when i get there. My guy is a bit bigger (~55lbs) so I'm sure this will get interesting. One thing at a time I guess. If anyone has any suggestions on dog walkers/day care ( I think we'll be living in either Newton or River Valley areas), then please PM or reply to this thread.

If I can help anyone with the current process, happy to do that as well.

Yutenji wrote:Hi, agree with the earlier comments. We also brought our dog into Singapore, (twice actually, but that's a different story). It's best to check early since most airlines will restrict to only having one dog in the passenger cabin.
Hello! We are planning to bring our cat from London to Singapore in-cabin. I like to know how was your experience bringing your dog in-cabin with you? Especially so, we are wondering if Singapore AVA allow a soft bag in-cabin? As we have read and got email reply from AVA that they required a IATA approved crate; we have not had a chance to clarify with the AVA if a soft bag is allowed. Hence, I'm just wondering if you have encountered similar issue and what did you do?
