Worst case scenario - No EP

Post by johnleung23 » Thu, 31 Jul 2008 10:00 am

Hi,

I have a list of backup plans in order to get myself an EP for a new company in Singapore. However, I want to know what I can do in the worst case that I don't secure an EP.

I understand that I can still do business in Singapore but that it's just a pain. Suppose I am opening a retail outlet with employees, can I actively manage the store and make visa runs? Are these just social visit visas or business visas?

I wan't able to find a thread on this so if anyone can point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.

Basically, without an EP of some sort you are up the creek. You cannot rent a place to stay (except a Serviced Apartment) without the legal right to be here. I am pretty sure you could not rent retail space without the legal right to be here.

You could open a personal bank account at some banks with only a passport and a letter of recommendation but you could not open a business account to deposit checks and pay expenses without having a registered company or business at ACRA (and all forms of companies have a requirement of at least an employment pass).

You cannot work on a social visit pass which is what you get when you come in. You cannot earn income in Singapore if you are on a business visa. Visa runs will work for a while but you may eventually may be denied re-entry if the immigration officer decides you are scamming the system.

So, you need the EP of some flavor. Me? I'd go the Entrepass route
