Good Lunch places - Must have the following...

Post by sierra2469alpha » Wed, 23 Jul 2008 6:49 pm

Hey friends! I know this really is a bit lame of me, but after we've tried some places in the Tattler and SF guides, we're really after some ideas about great places to have lunches...they need to be have the following:

1. Must be licensed for wine or at least BYO wine
2. Have a sheltered outdoor area
3. Be a place that does great food (of course), with good service
4. Suitable for overseas visitors IN PARTICULAR business guests
5. Not too touristy or full of us expats either!
6. Open weekends AS WELL as during the week (eg. biz lunches)

Please share your thoughts. I know those of you who have seen our posts know we've only been here 4 or so months, but any great experiences or places to steer away from would be most welcome.

Cheers, P (C isn't putting her name to this post as she insists we should not take shortcuts...smart grrl her!)

[edited: included the weekend and weekday requirements]

Lido, Food is OK, but nice view
Halia, good grub, bit touristy
Prive, Keppel marina, never tried the food at the restaurant as sprogs not allowed but outside space and nice view, and supposed to have good food.
The outdoor lounge area at Beaufort hotel on Sentosa surprising good food.

There's a bookshop round the back of Tanjong Pagar that is really fab. Not outdoors, can't remember if it serves wine or not and is only open during the week and on saturdays, not sundays. Sounds odd I know but really the food is really really good, plus they do a test kitchen once a month and pick a book and a meal and make it a special off the month.

I know that misses a couple of your criteria but when you have their steak minuet you'll consider mortons overpriced and over-hyped.

Can't remember the name but will ask the missus tonight and as I'm sure you know women have memories like elephants and remember everything!
Don't p*ss me off! I am running out of places to hide the bodies.

recently found a lovely eaterie in east coast park called sunset bay. next door to the bougainvillea garden, it's not too crowded and has a nice international menu. we got some beers, mozzarella salad and pizza and all was pretty good. really relaxed atmosphere for bringing friends and always a bonus it's next to the sea.....

Jumbo Seafood Waterfont Restaurant (Singapore Indoor Stadium). Yummo seafood. Nice views of the Kallang River. Alfresco and indoor dining :D

Not sure whether it would be suitable for biz clients though because some of the dishes may be easier to devour if you get your hands dirty eg. crab and lobster

C and I will gradually work through your recommendations if we haven't been there before.

Thanks team - great work by all the good regulars here, and we greatly appreciate it!

If anyone has any additional recommendations, that'd be great!

Plavt - you're first cab off the rank - will try that place this weekend if I can round up some buddies!

Cheers all, P
