Regarding Self Assessment Tool of MOM for Employment/S Pass

Post by maasgar » Tue, 22 Jul 2008 3:02 pm

Hi Everyone,

Today I have used the self assessment tool on me, just for the fun of it. Based on the outcome, I feel like making some comments. Before that, here is the link to the tool:

http://sat.mom.gov.sg/

It is funny that the tool asks for the amount of fixed monthly salary in SGD and assesses someone as being NOT eligible if the amount is less than $1800 SGD!

I have been working as a System Integration Engineer in the telecom sector for around 4 years in Bangladesh. Telecom continues to flourish and is booming in this country. 3G networks are emerging.

Anyway, the amount I get paid is considered quite high in this country. The living cost is not that much if you calculate in SGD. With 1 to 2 years of telecom experience, a typical engineer can live like a king with 50K BDT/month which is much lower than my salary. But 50K BDT comes out to be only around $1000 SGD.

I think the tool should take into consideration the equivalent living expenses, rather than absolute, before concluding that someone does not have the eligibility.

Please feel free to comment on my comments. :-)

You used the wrong number. It is the amount of salary that would be paid to you in Singapore by your future employer that you should enter.
