ERP technology is actually very old technology.

With accurate GPS system, you can charge on a per-use basis for roads without having unsightly gantries.

Perhaps in the near future, each car must be installed with a GPS unit. Your cash card or credit card will automatically be deducted as you drive around Singapore, according to some pre-set rates.

I think that is the future of ERP in Singapore.

You heard they are already researching that then? So is Canada, it was in the press a few months ago already, GPS enabled pay-as-you-go.

So maybe Canada can be the first to implement and we'll follow.

4 years ago I was asked to be on a Trial GPS based insurance scheme in the UK. Your insurance payments is calculated on your car use.

Sounds fair enough on a user-pays basis.

GPS wouldn't work if there's a lot of cloud (heavy rain). And good luck with that in tunnels ;)

For me ERP is pretty advanced stuff already. I haven't seen a system like that anywhere else that I've been to.

Since when did SG "follow" anybody?

The whole truth of the article was such that GPS would/could also be used to send you tickets for speeding, illegal u-turns, illegal parking..... etc.

It will come, the question is when. and this is despite the LTA announcing already that new ICU's will be fitted to new cars in the coming months, to take more payment options.

Just saw the papers today. National embarassment: apparently our national day Chinese theme song video was plagiarised from some Japanese ad from years ago. Seems to be hot news in the Chinese language blogs.
