ERP technology is actually very old technology.

With accurate GPS system, you can charge on a per-use basis for roads without having unsightly gantries.

Perhaps in the near future, each car must be installed with a GPS unit. Your cash card or credit card will automatically be deducted as you drive around Singapore, according to some pre-set rates.

I think that is the future of ERP in Singapore.

GPS wouldn't work if there's a lot of cloud (heavy rain). And good luck with that in tunnels


For me ERP is pretty advanced stuff already. I haven't seen a system like that anywhere else that I've been to.

The whole truth of the article was such that GPS would/could also be used to send you tickets for speeding, illegal u-turns, illegal parking..... etc.

It will come, the question is when. and this is despite the LTA announcing already that new ICU's will be fitted to new cars in the coming months, to take more payment options.
