Relocation Questions

Post by abcb » Sat, 05 Jul 2008 12:46 pm

Hi. I'm going to be relocating to Singapore and arriving on July 16th. I've been reading the classifieds here and have found some apartments that interest me. But I have a few questions I hope you can help me with.

1) Is it realistic to finish finding and signing the paperwork for renting an apartment within one week of arrival? I've already been approved for my EP so I hope to have the banking and EP done quickly. I wouldn't need to move in until early/mid August.

2) How much would it cost to furnish a p/furn 2 bedroom apartment? Ikea quality or slightly better is okay. Rough estimates welcome.

3) When should I start contacting agents to find an apartment? Any recommended process/timeline to follow?

4) If anyone has some positive experiences about one of the real estate agents from the expat forum, can you PM me with them? That way I know who to work with.

Thanks for the help!

2) How much would it cost to furnish a p/furn 2 bedroom apartment? Ikea quality or slightly better is okay. Rough estimates welcome. check the price in ikea. dont know what is your taste in furniture or what you need.

3) When should I start contacting agents to find an apartment? Any recommended process/timeline to follow? www.singaporeexpats.com. contact the agent asap but the market shifting so what you see/like now might be gone by the time you arrive. essential you go for viewing to check what you are getting.

I sent an email via the contact us link, but it said that they could take up to 7 days to respond. So I was hoping to get some advice before then. Any ideas of how to get a response in a shorter amount of time? As for question 4, I plan to use an agent from singaporeexpats, but I was looking for advice on any specific agent to use? I've heard that negotiating and finding a great apartment can greatly depend on your agent.

Send a PM to Pal or joop, the two Admins on this site as they are also realtors of this site. (if you tried earlier and it didn't work it's probably because you did not have 5 posts yet. I notice that you do have 5 now so it will work.
