laptop....
Do you heard of this laptop called Truenote? seems pretty cheap..
I'm buying a laptop for my mother, as she just use it for streaming and gaming, so thinking of getting a cheap one for her, but can last at least a year.
Thinking of getting the $699, I called earlier and they have some promo goin for $649. Specs can be seen from here
http://www.truenote.biz/productdetails/fu421.html
Any review?
I don't trust magazine review, they can be paid to write a good review????
Thanks.

Also make sure you get one with all the keys as the one you seem to be typing with now has a whole lot of missing keys and it's very hard to read. That's why most don't bother to help.

Jojoleona, as posted by sundaymorningstaple, some of us will get really annoyed at that sms speak grammar, i dont want to preach nor tell you how to form your posts but, it takes the will to communicate from me.
that said, lets go to give you some pointers:
they balance the act by giving you good (longer) battery life and mobility.
i rather dont give you specific models as they change quite fast,
high range check samsung, sony and fujutsu 12 inches models. those are expensive but tend to be the real ultra light models with amazing battery life.
medium range then check acer and toshiba, their "minis" (12 inch) models are ok and balanced, the acer ferrari is actually considered a gaming laptop so you pay more but you get better HD and video. i used to own an acer travelmate 3000 and felt it just too light for me.
low range: asus
there is this new ultra mega portable systems that are really cheap (S$600) and small (10 inch) they tend to be static (meaning they come pre installed with a stripped down version of linux targeting the student / traveler type: mail, internet, chat and productivity applications only)
if you can manage 3 to 4 kgs, then go for a 14 inch model; i do favor acer particularly, but again, if money its not a problem then you can go for the standard (14 - 15 inch) HP, Sony or samsung.
thing to note:
sony have better screens
samsung have better life
acer are all around good but excels in nothing
fujitsu are solid till they break, when they do... they really go to laptop heaven.
some are more linux friendly (acer, toshiba) than others, if that is your thing.
note that the worst thing you can do it to under size...
smaller is expensive in laptops, so, if you really could be comfortable with a normal sized one (14-15 inch) go for that instead of getting an ultra portable that wont deliver.
the light models go from 1,2 kg to 2 kg, normal ones go from 3 to 4 kg anything heavier than 5 kg is a desktop replacement, gaming laptop or mobile multimedia.
checking emails, etc etc... its standard, as soon as you say "play games only" you move to a minefield.
let me elaborate, eh?
laptops to play games require that you get brands and models that support a independent video card (nvidia, ati, etc) just for that you cant go with ultraportables in general, because in order to be ultraportable, the video card gets integrated with the CPU and share system RAM, it also consumes more power. there are exceptions like the acer ferrari or some sony models, but any gamer will tell you that for the amount of money you pay for an ultra portable gaming laptop you can get 3 times the power in a 15 or 17 inch model.
if you want to play any 2006+ game, you will need at least a 15 inch monitor model with a independent card, i will go as far as advise you to go for a 17 inch model, which its heavy by default (mine its an acer 5920G and its bulky, heavy and clumsy to handle, but im a mess up gamer so i bite the bullet).
in conclusion:
compact and not too heavy is not compatible with games.
where to get them at a reasonable price?
wait for the computer fairs (systex i think), in singapore they come every 4 months, so next one its december something... most of the people there will be willing to advise you and you can see the sizes and weights by yourself.
that said, lets go to give you some pointers:
light laptops are generally speaking less powerful and less useful in terms of low hard disk space, lower RAM and less powerful processors and obviously, screen sizes / video cards are smaller / less powerfulJojoleona wrote:compact n not too heavy.

i stopped being near compaqs around 7 years ago, so i dont know how good they have become, my feelings as of now (considering i have not used them lately), are not good...Jojoleona wrote: i actually q like compaq, but alot of ppl says its not v gd, which i find it confusing nw as i dun reali knw the laptop brand like wats gd ,wats not...

dont forget to also check some websites before you buy:
this one for example:
http://www.pcmag.com/category2/0,2806,9,00.asp
seems to be quite friendly as it allows you to categorize your comparison by specifications (size, weight, cpu, etc).
