mcarolina, if it's your intention to eventually get a job, why not volunteer at something that will provide skill sets that will be useful to you in future? Might as well kill two birds with one stone. For example:
PR, customer service, frontline: volunteer as a docent at the Singapore Art Museum (SAM) or try the Asian Civilisations Museum to see if they have a volunteer programme. The training is excellent I've heard, and you get to meet all sorts of people from all over the world.
counselling, one-to-one coaching: help man the SOS helplines, work with troubled teens, volunteer at a hospice or pregnancy crisis centre.
administrative, organisational: help with paperwork and events for a church, set up and man a booth at a charity or fund-raising event.
animal-related: help at the SPCA, zoo, bird park.
Or you could volunteer to walk my dog twice a day.
