Hi!
I'm an expat, I moved to Singapore about 8 months ago, I have been looking for a job since then without success, so I've decided that volunteering would be a more productive use of my time. Any recommendations/sites that have listings of places/agencies/groups looking for volunteers?
Thanks!

Hi there,
You could try:
National Council of Social Service
www.volunteers.org.sg
who hold a complete list of organisations that seek volunteers
I lived in NY for a year and was unable to work (no visa) and volunteered for a variety of organisations. I hope your experience is as fulfilling as mine was.
Good luck

You could also try the American Association of Singapore (
http://www.aasingapore.com). They run a volunteer program. Depending upon your skills they might want to hire you. What kind of a job are you looking for?

One to also think about is the Asian Art Museum, my wife was on the programme and apart from helping them out, she learned a great deal, and really enjoyed it

Hi mcarolina,
I am basically in the same position as you are, arrived in Singapore from NY abt 7 months ago and not much success on the job front as well. I had volunteered in NY previously and was also thinking of volunteering. Have you found anything so far?
p/s: Would you like to meet up for coffee sometime?

I just wanted to say that I used this link, registered, applied for a few jobs and I got a few replies and guess what. Started yersteday and it was one of my best days in Singapore.
Everyone was nice and helpful and very friendly.
So if anyone is thinking about it, my advice is go ahead and do it.
So thanks SMS for the link.

If you want to volunteer, one of the organizations to get involved with is UNIFEM.
www.unifemsingapore.org.sg. I think that is the website.
They have some really amazing volunteer opportunities.
I hope this helps.
