Anyone tried Work Holiday Experience (Career break)

Post by nova74 » Wed, 25 Jun 2008 5:18 pm

I'm taking a career break. Tempted to try out work holiday experience for a month or longer. Take the opportunity to experience working oversea too. Is pretty much popular and common in western part of the world, not so for Singapore presumably Anyone done it before, pls share experience. Is it safe for a gal to do it? Any recommendations?

be aware that there are age limits and requirements that you are within a few years after graduation to qualify for a working holiday visa in some countries...

and most commonly, these programs are done via bi-lateral treaties of some kind, and may depend on your nationality.

good luck on your WH and keep us (me!) posted on how your planning and trip goes. : )

yap age limits indeed

and where are you considering? are you a Singaporean, can look into doing a commonwealth holiday visa

also there's quota for countries such as Canada if i remember correctly

UK/Canada/NZ/Aus all pretty similiar in a way... :)

UK is a great place to travel around Europe

NZ/Aus are fantastic for a great life style

also depends on what field you're in (for work), easy to find a job?

Yes it's very popular in western countries, everyone I know who did that really enjoyed Working Holiday Experience. So far, I never heard someone who said he or she regret.
Think even for a gal it's okay (of course it depends on the country...) , even if it's not as safe as Singapore ;)

I think I would also advise you Australia or NZ as a first step, cause it's not so far from here, lifestyle is cool, and there are many people doing same working abroad experience you can meet.

I come from france so I can say Europe could be a good idea ... but I think if you consider Europe, you better choose northern Europe capitals (like Berlin, Stockholm, Copenhagen ...) , cause in southern Europe, people often don't make effort to speak english, so you have to know a bit of local language.
