Buying a dog in Singapore

Post by rockchalkinsing » Mon, 23 Jun 2008 4:52 pm

My husband and I recently moved to Singapore and are looking to buy a small dog. Pet stores seem very expensive. Does anyone have any advice?

Contact the SPCA or Action for Singapore Dogs (ASD) - they have animals ready for adoption and can advise you on a suitable pet and its care.

I would have to agree with skye.

You can find some very nice dogs at either of the locations mentioned. Quite often extremely expensive dogs that once they grew out of the puppy mode, were no longer wanted.

Additionally, most of those "pedigreed" dogs in the shops are products of puppy mills and are ridiculously overpriced.

I would like to repeat something said yesterday by road.not.taken.
"People should be made to take a test before being allowed to own a pet."
Or something close but means the same thing.

We found the perfect dog!

Thank you guys for that tip. We went to the SPCA yesterday and found the sweetest puppy. You were right, there were so many cute dogs there. It was a little tricky to find with all of the construction going on in that area, but it was so worth it! Thanks again :)

I hope you'll care for the puppy and bring it home when you leave Singapore.
At least, find a good home for it before you leave.

I sadden me to see some many people abandoning their dogs when they leave the island.
