in hind sight, looking at the number of posts elsewhere in this message board and their testy replies, i predict this will go down the same route.
i'll look for a social science professor to talk about this topic instead, for an impartial scholastic view.

I don't find Australians 'nasty', I find them blunt. But, this is OK for me, because if you go to Texas, you get pretty much the same thing... they say what is on their minds.
On the whole, Australians are a warm bunch, strongly independent, not likely to put up with a lot of crap.
As for racism and other undesirable qualities you will find, as with all other races and nationalities, that some are and some aren't. Your broad brush is unfair and uncalled for.
Summary: I don't actually think you know much about Australians.

i've worked with texans before. and have "clients" from texas too.
i now work with a number of australians. and see aussie "clients" also.
yes, there're a lotta people out there who don't take crap, australia or otherwise.
but they aren't on the same league as australians. i don't wish to go into details because it's just too nasty to repeat for their part and my part..
there has to be a reason (i must find out) for me to be able to accept them and forgive them for who they are and why they do and say what they do and say.
otherwise i'll have to go strangle them when they sleep. but granted, i'm generalizing, but with good experience and personal accounts.
i forgot to add: i also go drinking with aussies and kiwis after work. it's worse when they're (aussies) drunk because their true colors are revealed.
the racial slurs they hurl at people and comments about people are unnecessary.
these are well educated aussies, mind you, not bogans. you can tell what a person is like when they're tanked.

meh. aussies give a lot of shit but they expect it right back. my mates tell me I can't drive cos of my slanty eyes. I tell them I'd rather not be able to see cos my eyes are too small than because my nose is too big. it's the ones who've been here a while and adapted to the PCness that are dodgy.
