Hello,
My boyfriend and I are professors currently considering teaching offers in Singapore with government Junior Colleges. He would be placed at the National Junior College and I at the Catholic Junior College, both of which I think are in the Central District, near to Orchard.
Given that we will not be making the typical expat salary in Singapore (together we may be getting about USD 100,000), are there any reasonable neighborhoods for apartment rentals? He is Indian/Canadian and I am American, so we ideally would like to live around other expats to some extent.
Any advice any one can offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
salmon165

expats are everywhere, so there's no one location for expats only! where you want to stay is how much you can afford.

Expats do tend to live everywhere on the island. However, there are certain "complexes" which will have higher amounts of expats in them. Thus, I would advise you to create a budget and derive from the budget your rental range. Thus, once you have an idea of what you can spend on rent I would then go looking for a place. Simply inform the landlord your budget, sq footage, and age of building and he can find you a place that will fit your requirements and have close proximity to other expats.

Given the 2 CJs you guys will be teaching in, Buki Timah especially Belmoral area will be ideal. You can also consider Netwon & Nevona area. In these area, you will be travelling in opposite direction from the morning traffic.
