Need help in Finding an Apartment please!

Post by Kareena » Sun, 08 Jun 2008 5:35 pm

Hi everyone,
My husband and I are moving to SG with our 2 kids ages 4 years and 6 months. My hubby will not be getting any house allowance as he is not really getting an expat package , its more like a local one...so i am looking for a nice safe reasonably priced 2 bedroom apartment with a good school nearby as well as a grocery/meat store, MRT station and hoping it was some facilities like a play area ..because i have really young kids...wishful thinking? Grin
please can anyone suggest a good place? thanks so much!

just about every housing estate in singapore is safe, near school or MRT. really up to you where you want to live and how far your husband got to travel to work.

the choice is endless, but without you looking at the property, it is difficult to suggest where is good. your best bet is to engage an estate agent.

what're your real preference? gated condo? or public housing?

private school for the kids? or government ran child-care ctr/kindergartens?

i think in singapore, always add an extra number to the number of rooms you want.

so your "2 bedroom" apartment is now a "3 bedroom" apartment. i believe they count the living room as a "room" too.

as one of them said: it's safe in singapore. most housing areas have a train station nearby or decent bus service.

common play grounds aplenty!

I really recommend being within walking distance of an MRT. And don't trust your agent - make sure you see for yourself!

Every where in Singapore is safe. If you have a 4yrs old, you may want to look out for education centers around the area.

The better way is to get a temp lodging for a month and start search when you are physically here in SG. It's better since you can check out the surrounding.

Also note that people coming for certain countries may have more problem getting a rental unit i.e. less choices.

Hi EF

Welcome to the Singapore expat forum.

Noticed that you are posting the same thing is different threads. Did you create your account just to rent out your new apartment?

Kareena said her husband is not really getting an expat package, so I doubt a new condo with roof terrace jacuzzi will match her budget. On the other thread, you are promoting your 2+1 to somebody looking for a large 4br. OMG!

Hi
Firstly, you need to know your budget and where your hubby office is. Driving and cabs are no longer cheap in Singapore. Cost me a bomb to commute to town as my office is in town and i live in suburbs. So bus and MRT is the best bet to beat the traffic and cost on road.

Well, I can't say that i've researched all parts of Singapore housing and i have different criteria from yours.

There's basically 2 types of housing : the public flats called HDB, or the private that can range from a house, to a condominium that houses recreational facilities strictly for its residents only.

I have seen condos in Novena area, which is close by coldstorage as well as education facilities for kids. A nice area, just 1 - 2 mrt stops to Orchard.
Holland is nice too, mostly for expats. Clementi, Dover, Bishan, Toa Payoh, Kallang... may be something for you out of town area, depending where your hubby works.

Check out the mrt map, it may help you.

Cheers
