Financial Analyst

Post by Angus111 » Fri, 06 Jun 2008 6:25 pm

Hello,

I am a British qualified accountant (CIMA) looking to relocate to Singapore in Feb 09. I have 6 years experience in financial analysis, rather than straight accounting.
Any comments on the following would be greatly appreciated:

Would I be able to find a financial analyst position in Singapore?
I have no offers, was hoping to turn up and talk to recruitment agencies.
What kind of salary range could I expect?
Is there much scope for employment outside of banking?

Many thanks

SG still has a robust financial sector.
Try UK (or other European) multinationals that have a presence in SG.
You will be in a better negotiating position if you can find a job before you arrive.

There are also visa issues to consider.
It is not very good planning to just "turn up" and expect to find a job.
Especially if you intend to be in the conservative financial sector.

Check the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) websites for background.

Do some basic research.
Prove that you have something that might be of value to those that might hire.

Are you interested in financial controller rather than Financial Analyst. I know of a great International company here in Singapore is looking for an FC. Required sooner than Feb09 though...

They are definitely lloking for a qualified accountant. And I know the job would entail a certain amount of detailed analysis for the group reporting department.

IF interested let me know.

How recognised is the CIMA qualification in Singapore ??

I am also a CIMA member. But not sure if it is highly regarded in Asia. The job I am going to do in SG has very little relevance to all my years of study.

I am seriously thinking about sitting exams to get a CPA status such as HKICPA. Is this worth doing ?
