moving from Abu Dhabi to Singapore

Post by cnewall » Tue, 03 Jun 2008 11:34 pm

Hello,

I have just recceived an exhorbitant quote for moving a small shipment of personal items from Abu Dhabi to Singapore. they say it is because of costs at the Singapore end. I wonder if anyone can give me advise on the best way to go about this.

I only have two weeks..

How much do you call an exhorbitant quote and how's it being transported?

You say small, but what is the cubic capacity?

Alternative is to find a container returning to Singapore, and contact them!

I think if you go through an agency, they will kind of take your money, they also know, you don't have much choice, but to pay!

Well, I think it would be smaller than 2metres x 1 metre x 1 metre.

How do I go about finding a container returning to Singapore?? Sorry to sound dumb..:)

That is very very expensive. Why don't you just post it yourself?

The main purpose of not posting it myself is because of the weight and such. There are a large number of books. Also, mail is a huge problem from here and that concerns me. Lastly I am going home to Australia for 6 weeks in between leaving Abu Dhabi and arriving in Singapore and I do not yet know my address in Singapore. The company do not have enough room to store it until I arrive.

On the plus side, the agency is trying to find a much better price than the one the gave me initially.

Cheers
Carolyn

Books and other printed matter can usually be shipped by mail surprisingly cheaply -- check at your local post office for "International M-Bag" rates. The 6-week hiatus is a bit of a problem though...

Sending them by mail shouldn't be a huge problem.

Make sure you tell them sea freight not air freight.

When you say agent, why don't you just go direct to an international shipper?
