Hi appletree,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. It really means alot as I'll be heading off next month for my rinoplasty with Dr Kao too...am feeling jittery just thinking about it! :)

May I check with you how come the surgery take such a long time? Is it usually that long and does the hospital provide meals and food? Is it edible??

Hope to hear from you again soon. Take care and rest well :)

Hi Appletree,

First of all, CONGRATSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How are you doing now?
Appletree, you are staying at the Kang Ning Apartment right? How is it there? Did you book the transportation from airport to apartment with the Kang Ning Apartment service or just took the cab as you got out of the airport?

hihihih you haven't shopped enough yet?? hihihi continue shopping until you drop then! hihi Hopefully I will be able to do some shopping too.

I'm kinda worry about getting around without knowing chinese.

Thank you for your update Appletree!!! I'm kinda scared right now already. Trying not to think of it until it comes (which is next month) lolz hihi

Hope to hear from you soon and Have a good healing okie:)
appletree wrote:Hi moonlight_pmdct,

from the airport to the apartment is about 1200NT, and back to the airport is about the same too. From the apartment to shiling night market should be around 200NT ++
Luckily i was able to do shopping on my first day as i had my surgery on the other day. However, i think i didnt buy enough yet, thinking to go back shopping maybe one day before i leave taipei.hehe. I spent really alot on the cab fares.. dont know how come got the extra spending of near 2k sgd just on the 2nd day. ..

moonlight_pmdct wrote:Vicky,
that's what i'm afraid of (don't know how to speak chinese being a factor). I will be in Taipei on Dec 21. I have already booked a pick-up from the appartment where I and my mom will be staying. However, it would be really helpful still if you can ask him for the rate from the Kang Ning Service Apartment in Neihu to the Shiling market and the other markets that you have told me about, also from the appartment to the airport (so maybe I can book him for my departure date).

Thanks Vicky for all your help.

Im back in singapore.. Dread leaving Taiwan!!!! And i miss my Dr's Cinic!

Sure i will email u the details.. he can speak very little but u can bring along the address.. i will call him tomorrow and ask the exact rate to your hotel. Btw Which hotel r u staying? And when will u be going over?

To be frank staying in taiwan not knowing chinese is quite a huge language barrier.. i will try to help you ask him what degree of english does he understand till. Otherwise i will ask him to arrange someone who knows better english..

And yes, his cab is a limo

appletree wrote:Hi people,

im now here in taipei, just had my rib autology done with dr.Kao. Will just update alittle bit first.

Day 1 - Consultation with dr.kao, he sure does is a very patient and friendly doctor. He was very busy as on and off there's patient seeing him on that day. There was a taiwanese lady at the counter registering for admittion to the hospital, as she will have her rib autology on that day. Rib autology is rather common in taiwan i think. However, seems like most of his patients are local, very few foreigners as he was asking how come i know about his autology rhinoplasty.

Day 2 - admit into the hospital. Was really scared and frighten! I still get to see dr kao before i went in to the surgery room to have GA..so i keep repeating to him that i do not want to have a pinch or too sharp and tall nose, something nice like the picture i provided and which is good for mian xiang. Though dr kao said that he's not going to touch the side of my nose, due to the scars created when i did my nose in "KALO", i was at first very disappointed when he said he will not expand the alar (as i felt my nose abit pinched), but when i came out of the surgery room, dr kao told my bf that he tried his best to expand abit of my alar, but he didnt do much to my nose tip for this time, he just used septal cartilage for my nose rib, and he said after 1 year when the nose has stabalise, i can still consider for revision for the nose tip using ear cartilage. He had even corrected my nostril as i had very small nostril, now like abit bigger opening and he said that the nose tissue inside which was damanged by the previous nose job at KALO.

As for the pain, i was on the bed whole day after i came out of the surgery room. The sugery was from 1pm till 9pm in the night, which was an 8 hours surgery!! I didnt experiences vommiting or naeseous right after the surgery, just the sore throat pain, mouth dry, thirsty and i even feel hurgry.. hehe. But i felt really painful to climb up from bed as i drank too much orange juice. Some of the nurses there are okay but theres one who is really damn! Basically, the nurses will not bother you unless you press the bell for them. I was lucky that my bf was there for me whole night in the hospital room, i got discharged out from the hospital the next day evening.

My appetite was ok and i keep visiting the toilet, so you can imagine me having to bear with the pain when i climb up from the bed. Im able to walk around the room on day 3 onwards, today is day 4,everythings fine, the chest wound getting lesser pain, but still pain lar when i cough, climb up, sniff or laugh.. hehe

Will be seeing dr kao tomorrow for the wound dressing. Its really cold in taipei now, will try to update abit when im back to sg :)

Im sure my new nose will definately looks better than the previous one, lets wait for few days more to remove the stitches.
wow... be brave girl! u go girl! recover well and soon ok!!
thanks for the update even when u r feeling pain pain... very nice that your bf was wif u...

most prob when i do my, i be alone... = (

keep us update of your progress ok. maybe can take some pics of the nose (only) and show us so we can see how it looks like.

how much did dr kao quote u for the whole thing? im planning my budget and would like to know how much for each part of the surgery, like im sure the nose n the rib surgery is separate rite?

tobehunk: I can't speak for appletree's case, but from what i understand of other ppl's quote and what dr kao told me, its roughly 100-110k NTD. No la, it's all packaged together, that amount includes the rib grafting and rhinoplasty. Quite unethical if the doc wants to charge separate amount eh

What do you want to know?
do you share wif us the whole process, like

pre ops: how did the surgeon recommend autologous graft for you. which part - rib or ear graft?

ops: is the surgery separate from the nose one? which part did they get the graft? what is the pain level? scar level? under GA or LA?

post op: how is scar n nose healing now? do you wait a few days after the graft surgery for the surgeon to shape the graft to fit? what other post op care do they provide for the graft n nose?

what is the price tat dr quote u? is it separate from the nose? will the graft grow back in your body? what are the possible implications? fever?

sorry feline eyes for the long list of questions.. hope you can oblige me.. BIG thanks!! = )

I decided that I wanted an autologous Rhinoplasty and went about searching for a doctor who does that. Ear cartilage has limits; it can only raise your bridge minimally (limited material can be harvested due to the small harvest site). My nose is pretty flat.

If you read my original post you would get a pretty good idea what the surgery entails.

The scar is alright and within an acceptable range, plus it will continue to fade.

There are plenty of quotes given by my doctor that are floating around in this thread. I prefer not to divulge. And yes, it is a one price thing; no hidden charges.

You can get an infection for an autologous surgery and it is bad if you do, there will be a high level of resorption. But that is due to the nature of having a surgery; being cut up. Secondary infection due to rejection will not occur due to the fact that it is an autologous implant. So once you have recovered from the surgery, you should be set for life without worries about your implant site (that is if you are satisfied about the aesthetic results already).
Don't count on me little post-its. I am now the infrequent-er.

no offence just pulling your leg. happy that you did your nose finallt thou may need a revision again due to the DAMN kalo.

Anyway, take one step at a time, maybe you may not want the tip revision. Good luck and take care.

Others, this is what i mean that for some ppl they may need 2 stages of nose job to get the desired result as the doctor do not want to overstress the tissue around the nose in one shot.

next, i think those after hear the pain dun be overly frighten. the pain is not as bad as she describe for appletree is a well taken and delicate girl. i think moss can take the pain with stride. hehehe.

Hi cersepn,

haha, did you manage to see any of his own post op patients there? if so, how are their noses? I'm assuming you spoke with him in chinese all the way right, if not, how's his spoken english? How's the clinic itself? Does it look very well-furnished?

I did see 2 chinese taiwanese girl before my turn, her nose looks very nice and i asked dr kao, he told me he did the ear cartilage rhinoplasty.
Basically, he seems to be a very very busy doctor with so many patients looking for him everday.. omg..
Yes, i spoke to him in chinese, i guess he can understand english as he replies emails in english :) . He doesnt runs a clinic, hes the ENT specialist in Kang ning hospital and Tri-general hospital, rather famous in taiwan if im not wrong. The procedures is just like when you go to a hospital then have to take a register number 1st, before u go up to the floor to see him.

Hmm, just curious, which celeb's picture/pictures you showed him? Does he like have a better catalogue of before and afters in the clinic than on the website, cos the website ones not really that impressive and i'm pretty sure he's much capable of more. Interesting ar, so the reason for not touching the tip was cos of the damaged nasal tissue and if he were to do the tip at the same time, your nose might not be able to take the stress? So right now your tip has no change at all ar?
I showed him Kim tae hee's photo..hehe.. he had alot of sample patient photos in his notebook, just that dont have much time to show me all bah i guess, abit rush because i have too much questions to ask him..lol.
Yes, i guess he do not want my nasal tissue scars to be more damaged i guess. My nose tip looks better (can see abit but still got cast on though)now i guess and he helps me to widen the nostril hole, and im really thankful that he did that for me. He actually helps to widen my alar base abit even though in e 1st place he said he prefers not to touch my alar base first. I tolf him i dont want my current pinch looking nose now, want him to help me widen abit and with a rounder tip, keep stressing to him about the 'mian xiang' idea nose i want lol.

Haha, great to know that you're in excellent condition and most importantly, you don't have the post-op blues! We over here in SG are here giving you all our support, stay optimistic k. oh and btw how much were you charged? 100-110k region?[/quote]

Hey thanks alot :) , finally the surgery is over, just hope the healing will goes well, and awaiting for the stitches to be remove..however i will be removing them in singapore because im flying back tomorrow.
About the prices, i guess you have to check with dr kao, as the price now is 4000usd. :)

Walau.. you're very fortunate loh!! 8hrs of surgery and no after-effects of the GA, very good leh! Got strong body sia

Hi kittygal,

Dont worry, he's a nice and very reputable doctor. :) not a problem, i believe by sharing, more people will come to know about autology rhinoplasty! 8-) It's not a big operation lar, to the nurses and doctors, autology rhinoplasty is just a small surgery only!! :o lol...because the moment when i was being pushed to the surgery room, i keep asking the nurses will it be very painful..lol... but now you see, i still can shop around and laugh on my 5th day liao. ..but sad lar, cant stay until i remove the stitches, need to rush back, wasted the next 3 days apartment room fees somemore and have to pay extra on the changing dates for return tickets.
ahh yes, regarding the surgery, i think mine took longer because i have damaged nasal tissue and he needs to repair the damage bah. The hospital does not provides meals, but u can order food from them before you go for the surgery, or either you have to ask the person who goes with u to take away food from 7 eleven next door.

Hi meili,

dont worry, you will be in good hands! 8-) He is a very patient and caringt doctor, and will did his best to give you what you want. My bf saw the stitches under my chest and he commented that dr kao is really a very skillful doctor, there isnt any blood from my chest wound at all!! :D To see a doctor skillful or not can simply see from the way he stitches up the wound.
Dr Kao told me that there will be a singaporean going to see him next week, anyone's going ?

I find that dr chuang did quite well for medpor chin, can see from some of the forumers from here who went to dr chuang for the medpor chin implant..

Hi moonlight_ ,

Oh no.. i didnt stay at kang ning apartment, kind of regret not staying there, as i saw that the apartment is just beside kang ning hospital only, so much conviences, can save so much on cab fares also!! The Service Apartment im staying is the other one that dr kao recommanded, but he still will prefer us to stay at kang ning hospital, because it is simply so conviences there!! I wasted so much on cab fares travelling thru and fro from the hospital.
Yes, i bought so much today that have to buy another new luggage back..hehe. Now did the whole day walking, need to take a rest on bed liao, so many posts...
I suggest u stay in kang ning apartment better as the have a service counter there, at least they can help u get a cab or assist you to contact dr kao.
Waoo..seems like quite alot of people going next month to dr kao? U gers going together? :)

Good luck and best wishes to people whose going to dr kao soon

Oh ic, but u are a guy, im sure u will be able to take care of yourself bah :) .. just be sure to stay kang ning apartment if you are going alone, as the apartment is just beside the hospital only!! They even have provide breakfast everyday! U will be fine ya.
As for the autology rhinoplasty, the price that dr kao quoted is the whole thing( nose plus the rib harvesting)

Cheers~

Hmmm.. yes, dr kao did mentioned to me that i may consider to have the tip grafting using ear cartilage if i find my tip not lowered enough. However, i find that it looks ok now lar, i do not want a too lowered down tip.. as long as my nose doesnt look like "chai tian pi" can liao.. hehe

Yea, maybe i have been to exxagrated on the pain factor bah, as i really cannot take pain but still want to be vain! hehe..
I hope my wound heals well, and no infection!!
