Comestic and Plastic surgery in Taiwan

Post by feline.eyes » Thu, 29 May 2008 12:20 am

I will list a few of the Taiwan plastic and cosmetic clinic surgery websites that I have come across in my own research. I have not had surgery or corresponded with all of them, only Dr Ryan Hsu and Dr Jimmy Chuang. I can only speak about my experiences regarding those two Doctors but I hope listing the other websites will help other forumers who would like to do their own research and decide on the final choice. Of course I hope other forumers will share their own experiences too.

-Dr Ryan Hsu
www.ychsu.com

ENT specialist base in Kaohsiung who only does autologous rhinoplasty and only silicone chin implants. Autologous material can be derived from ear, ribcage and nose. He will be able to correct ENT and aesthetic issues. He was an understudy of Dr Dean Toriumi www.deantoriumi.com , who is reputed to be one of the top 5 rhinoplasty surgeons in the world. There are many reviews of him on this forum, including mine.

-Dr Jimmy Chuang
www.wishclinic.com.tw

A surgeon base in Taipei reputed to be one of the best mammoplasty surgeons in Taiwan. He is also widely noted for his blepharoplasty, epicanthoplasty and lateral epicanthoplasty.

-Dr Mike Tseng
www.aphrodite.com.tw

A surgeon that is really popular with the forumers at www.purseblog.com. All the reviews about his rhinoplasties I have read are very positive and the pictures speak for itself. Visit this thread for their reviews http://forum.purseblog.com/health-and-f ... 28183.html

-Dr Kao Chuan Hsiang
http://tw.myblog.yahoo.com/face-nose

An ENT specialist reputed to be one of the best rhinoplasty surgeons in Taiwan and he is based in Taipei. He furthered his studies in US at the University of San Diego. He does autologous and artificial (silicone and goretex) implants). He is very well known in Taiwan and is frequently interviewed. He also provides mini face lifts, botox injections, restylane injections, blepharoplasty and chin augmentations.

-Dr Su
http://www.dr-su.com

Reputed to be one of the best Blepharoplasty surgeon in Taiwan but only does primary and does not do any revision work.

-Dr Jong
http://www.lrclinic.com.tw/

Does calf reductions, eyelash and other hair transplants. You can check out the reviews of his patients at http://forum.purseblog.com/health-and-f ... 28183.html

-Dr Tsai
http://www.miniface.com/

Reputed to be one of the best facial bone restructuring surgeons.

-Dr Yang
- http://www.artwood.com.tw/

A doctor I have consulted with online and have read some positive reviews about. Comprehensive website and great results shown. Blepharoplasty focussed surgeon.

-Dr Chen
- www.beauty899.com

missuglynose did her blepharoplasty with them. Check out her blog to find out about her experience.

www.missuglynose.blogspot.com

-Dr Chang
http://27565488.com

-Dr Liang
http://www.cosmetic-clinic.com.tw/

-Dr Zheng
- http://www.beautycare.com.tw/

-Dr Yang
- http://www.hi-pretty.com/

One of the most well known blepharoplasty surgeons in Taiwan. Plenty of positive reviews from Taiwanese. Know for his non incision Blepharoplasties.

-Dr Chang
- http://www.2youngclinic.com/

The list is obviously not comprehensive. These are just some of the websites that I have come across during my research. Please email the clinics to enquire more about their services as I do not know enough about them. I will only be able to share my experiences about the doctors I have had actual contact. If I have made any mistakes or if you want me to include more information, please message me and I will edit this post. I will keep updating this post with any information I will come across in the future.

To Taipei City-

Some of the airlines that fly to Taipei:
Thai, Malaysia, Cathay Pacific, Vietnam, China, Singapore, Eva, Jetstar, etc.

Your international flight will stop at either of the terminals (there are two) of Taoyuan International Airport (formally known as Chiang Kai Shek International Airport).

1. You can catch a cab to town ; there are plenty of cabs waiting outside the airport and they are metered and will cost you about 1200NT.

2. Instead of catching a cab to town which will cost you an arm/leg, you can catch the shuttle bus provided by UBus to the Taoyuan Station of Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR). The bus is provided by the UBus company and is green and will cost you 30NT. It runs about every 20 mins and takes about 20 mins. You can then catch the THSR from the Taoyuan Station to the Taipei Station for about 125NT (but if you are travelling on weekdays and if you choose the non designated seats, you can get a discount). It will take about 20 mins. The THSR Taipei Station is linked to the MRT Taipei Main Station.

3. There are also buses from the airport that will bring you directly to the MRT Taipei Main Station for about 125NT in about an hour. The buses run every 15 mins until midnight. It will make stops along the way at major hotels and you can try to find out from the driver if he will stop at your hotel, if not go to the final stop which is the MRT Taipei Main Station and make your way to your destination.

You can get tickets for the buses to the MRT Taipei Main Station and the THSR Taoyuan Station at the buses ticketing counter located within the airport. There are also buses to Song San Airport (domestic airport). Ask around if you can't see the buses ticketing counter.

To Kaohsiung City-

Some airlines that fly to Kaohsiung:
Cathay Pacific, Silkair, China, Malaysia, Vietnam, etc.

4. Your international or domestic flights will land at Siaogang Airport (or Xiaogang Airport). There is a MRT Kaohsiung International Airport Station located right beside the airport. You can hop on the MRT and get to most areas within Kaohsiung.

5. If your flight lands in Taoyuan International Airport and you want to make your way to Kaohsiung city, follow the instruction number 2 that leads you from Taoyuan International Airport to the THSR Taoyuan Station. From the THSR Taoyuan Station, you can get to the THSR Zuoying Station in about 1 1/2 hours for about 1060NT (you get a discount on weekdays and for choosing a non designated seats). The THSR Zuoying Station is linked to the MRT Zuoying Station.

6. You can of course take a cab to your destination. The cab fares in Taiwan (both in Taipei and Kaohsiung) are reasonable and around what you would expect in Singapore.

Hi Feline,

Thank you so much for posting this up, you wouldn't know how helpful it is for lost souls like me who are planning to do PS in Taiwan. May I ask did you have anything done with Dr Chuang or just solely Dr Hsu? Im not sure if you know about this but do you know how to go to Dr Hsu from Dr Chuang's place in Taipei cos your instruction only reveal from taipei airport to Kao Shiung...

May I ask how was your experience with Dr Hsu? Was the experience painful?? Do you feel prettier now...? Are you aware of warping? Did Dr Hsu say what happens in cases of warping? Do one have to undergo surgery to remove it again....?

Hope you could share your surgery and post op experienece with us and thank you once again for posting this up, have a speedy recovery! :)

I totally get you, because before I was going insane trying to get information about Taiwan that are in English and it was terribly hard.

Taipei

I suggest that if you are going to stay and travel in Taiwan for some time to get a guide book like I did. I got the Lonely Planet and it was pretty helpful for going on small trips away from the major city. But if you aren't going to travel much but are just going to stay in Kaohsiung and Taipei, then I think it won't be necessary.

When you arrived in Taipei, get the "Taipei City Travel" published by the Taipei Metro. You can find it at most of the major MRT Stations and most definitely at the Taipei Main Station. It should be displayed at the tourist pamphlets area. It is a useful book to have around and will be enough to help you navigate Taipei if you stay within the central area. It also tells you the major attractions within the city and how to get to them with the MRT. Helpful ain't it? :)

You can also check out the Visitor's Information Centre at Taipei Main Station . Opening hours are 8am to 8pm.

Kaohsiung

If you use the THSR to get to Kaohsiung, please check the pockets in front of your passenger seat. In it there should be a handy little timetable for the THSR and with the MRT stations printed at the back. The Kaohsiung MRT is very, very new and most maps and guidebooks will not list the stations. When I last checked, the Kaohsiung MRT did not have any guidebooks out like the Taipei MRT. When you get to your hostel/hotel, ask the front counter for a map of Kaohsiung and you should be fine. Alternatively, you can get a map from Dr Hsu. Kaohsiung is a lot smaller than Taipei and has a lot less attractions. Frankly there isn't much to do.

I can't tell you how to get to Dr Chuang or Dr Hsu from your hostel because I don't really know when you would be staying in, plus I am sure you can figure that out once you get there.

Dr Chuang

Dr Chuang's clinic is nearest to the Zhongxiao Dunhua Station. Go to the ticketing machine and get your ticket by following the instructions. Hop on the blue line and get to Zhongxiao Dunhua Station and use exit 8. When you exit the station, go the opposite way that you got out. Walk for less than 5 mins and you should be at 179 Dunhua South Road. If you are worried that you are walking the wrong direction, just keep your eyes on the numbers of the shops. 179 is a building that is set slightly inwards from the road. It is a red brick building with an iron gate and a security station just after the main door. The clinic is located on the second floor on the right.

Actually the instructions and map on Dr Chuang's website is very good so you should check it out.

Dr Hsu

Hsiaogang Hospital is nearest to the MRT Siaogang Station. Once you exit the station with exit 3, catch a cab to the hospital. It will cost you about 100NT and takes no time at all. You can walk, but it will take you about 20mins. Once you exit the station with exit 3, walk along Yanhai 1st Road. Then you should see Hanmin Road on your right and turn into it and keep walking on this road until you reach Hsiaogang Hospital.

Keep in mind that the instructions is for Hsiaogang Hospital, not his own clinic. I have no idea how to get to his clinic which is quite a distance away. Email him for more information if you are unsure and he will be more than glad to give you more directions.

I got my nose done with Dr Hsu and my eyes done with Dr Chuang.

Rhinoplasty

I got my rhinoplasty with Dr Hsu using autologous cartilage harvested from my right ribcage just underneath my breast. My rib wound hurt like a freak when they were getting me off the operating table but quickly lessened over the next few days. Don't be shy and say it is painful when it is so they can give you the painkillers. My advice is not to move much during the first two days, because it only really hurt if you exert yourself. Find a position that you are comfortable with. Mine was simple; to lie flat on my back. All in all I would say it really didn't hurt that much and is completely tolerable. Only time I went damn, is the moving from the operating table to the bed. But still because it was so fast, I really don't remember much about it at all.

Fact is, I suffered a lot more because of the anaesthesia. I kept vomiting and was nauseous for about 24. I dread having to get up to pee because it would mean throwing up again. It was vicious because I had to drink more water to get rid of the medication that was affecting me. I had zero appetite so I got my sister to get me the drink/jello supplements from 7/11. They were a godsend. They are kept at the drinks section or the area when they keep the sandwiches and meals. They come in different flavours and contents (vitamins, Q10, fiber, hanten, energy, etc).

My healing rate is pretty terrible so I am reluctant to say much about my nose at the moment. I can say that the wound below my chest is fine and the scar is a thin red line about 1 1/2 inches and completely covered when I am wearing a bikini/bra. The reddish hue will fade more after some time., so it will get less and less visible. Now it only hurts when I sneeze and it hurts less if I put light pressure on it when I do sneeze.

Dr Hsu is a very nice doctor and he is very obliging and will try to answer all your questions to the best of his abilities. I cannot stress enough that how successful an operation has to do with the communication with your doctor so he will know what you want and so he can tell you if it is possible and within his means. He can't read your mind and you cannot assume he knows what you mean/desire. He came over just after my operation but I was so out of it... He came over again the next day to check on me and of course I saw him just before I checked out.

Dr Hsu promised revision if anything goes wrong, so that includes warping. Yes, another operation will be needed. I can't see how things can be corrected without one. Revision will be provided at no surgical and material cost but the charges for the operation room will be levied. Please contact Dr Hsu for more information regarding revision, charges and the conditions attached.

Do I feel prettier? Frankly no... Although I had a very flat nose but it was something that I was comfortable with and had lived with for the past however many years. And though I can't say I was beautiful, but I was considered attractive by some (but I admit I need to lose some of the weight I gained in Australia T_T). After the cast came off, I was quite depressed because I looked so different and I had a hard time adjusting to it and am still trying to. If I looked at the nose as a separate entity, I think it looks quite good even though it is still swollen. I really can't say if I can't adjust to it because it is not suited or because I am not use to it. But most importantly like I stated earlier, it would be unfair and completely stupid to say anything at the moment because it is still swollen and it hasn't even been a month yet. I will post my thoughts on it later when it is less swollen.

Blepharoplasty and epicanthoplasty

I had secondary revision Blepharoplasty and Epicanthoplasty with Dr Chuang. It was a spur of the moment thing. I called up the clinic and made an appointment for consultation and I was back there at 6pm for surgery and after about 2 hours I left the clinic and went back to hostel. I went back 6 days later to remove my stitches.

Dr Chuang is very, very busy. He will give you plenty of time to ask questions and clarify anything during consultation, but other than that he is just rushing around fulfilling his appointments. He is very friendly and professional and will answer your queries but I can't say he has the personal touch, though I will say he does his job well and quick. My epicanthoplasty scars are tiny because the stitches were so well done, and they are fading even more everyday. But the stitches for the mini incision Blepharoplasty is a lot more visible and my eyelids are still swollen and looks unnatural so I can't really say if I am satisfied or not.

Hardcore? Well, that will depend on why you say that and what do you mean...

As in terms of procedures, I think I am not one of the most altered forumers.

In terms of giving detailed information, I think I should because it will help others who also met with difficulty getting information on Taiwan. I had trouble when I was researching for my trip so I can understand that it is not easy.

So what inspired you to make such a jocular reply?

Hi Feline,

Thank you so much for posting this up, it it really very informative and I truly appreciate that. I would most probably be traveling here alone by myself so you can imagine how scary it'll be for me and I really wish I wouldn't get lost.

By the way, which hotel did you stay at and do you actually travel to Kaoshiung from taipei via the high speed bullet train and not the MRT? I got alittle confused while reading your post and wanna ensure that you took the high speed bullet train and not the MRT....

Hmmm you know I met up with a girl who did PS afew months ago and although she look totally gorgeous, she kinda have the same feeling as you - I would call that 'identity crisis' after the surgery. I should say she looked totally different that what she used to look like and I can understand the struggle having to cope with a new face, even though the outcome was awesome. :) Just take it easy for now and concentrate on letting your body heal. :)

Lastly, hope you could take some time out to advise me about the 'bullet train' thingy, and hope you have gotten yourself some sunnies cos I know I would as i dun really have a bridge now to carry that ever....

oh feline eyes don't mind ppl like that

nowadays getting a nose job and eye job is becoming more and more prevalent. Some ppl are just blunt, in a bad, don't think before they talk way.

thanks for all the information! You are truly an angel lol

I already know *some* info, but I guess it helps for ppl that are lazy and don't have the basic ability to look through a thread before they ask repeated questions.

I'm STILL debating on the DR hsu and chuang thing
I mean YES I want a safe implant (ie ribs) BUT I don't want the darn thing to warp!!!

urgh

I think you would have to be seriously challenged to go lost for real in Taiwan, or if you venture out to the less touristy regions and can't speak a word of Mandarin. Ask. The locals are very friendly and helpful, and especially to tourist. If you can only speak English, approach the younger generation. They are taught English in school and though a little slow to reply (Be patient. Though they were taught, due to a lack of practice, can be a little awkward), they will try their darnedest to help you.

Taipei and Kaohsiung each have their own local MRT system and the THSR links up all the major cities. You should check out the websites I listed for them and study them. You should have been able to see that they are not linked. I could be wrong but I think my instructions are pretty detailed. Anyway yes, to travel from one city to another you get on the THSR. For local travel in the city, you get on the local MRT.

I stayed at the Minkan Hotel near the MRT Siaogang Station. Cost 900NT per night. Bathroom ensuite, fridge with a little freezer compartment, hot/cold water dispenser, cabled TV, free ADSL, breakfast included and free transfer between the hotel and the MRT Stations (either Siaogang Station or Siaogang International Airport Station). The transfer service is really useful. The hotel is located a slight distance away from the MRT Siaogang Station which is a 15 mins walk. If you want to walk, exit from the main entrance (not the back exit which is near the lift) of Minkan Hotel. You walk along Ta Yeh North Road (or Tayehpei or Tayehbei) until you meet Hanmin Road, then you turn left into it. You walk along it until you meet Yen Hai 1st Road, then you turn right into it and walk along it and you should see the MRT Siaogang Station soon. Or you can just tell the front counter to send you to the MRT station. And when you get back from your wanderings, give them a call from the MRT Station and they will pick you up to send you back to the hotel. But remember, like I said before, only from Siaogang or Siaogang International Airport Station.

I stayed at the Taipei Hostel while I was in Taipei. (Warning: budget hostel, don't expect a hotel). I stayed in a two bed dorm with my sister for 600NT. Shared bathrooms, self assisted laundry service (wash 50NT, dry 50NT), free ADSL in the living area, kitchen facilities, shared fridge/freezer. It is very near to the MRT Shandao Temple Station. There is a 24 hours MacDonald's and a 7/11 round the corner, all within 5 mins walk.

And thank you for your kind thoughts ^_^

Hey Feline!
Good to see you're back in the groove.
So glad you had such a good experience in Taiwan. Dr Hsu said you could speak Chinese. Cheh, and there I was thinking you poor thing, how to pass you all I knew from my experience before you go there! Haha...
I too wanted to do something with my eyes but didn't want to squeeze that together with the rhino for fear things go awry - you were so daring to do two surgeries with different surgeons in different cities. Admirable!

Sorry to hear about your torture with the anaesthesia. I had an easy time with that. Also sorry to hear about your difficulty getting adjusted to the new nose. I had hated my nose so much all this time, that ANYTHING was appreciated. I so wanted to look different. The initial look was terrific - but that has settled a little. I still like my new nose a lot - esp from certain angles. I presented myself to my oral maxillofacial surgeon and he was stunned. Thought I looked like Fei Xiang! Wow!! You really need to get it at a particular angle and with special lighting (pitch black!).

When I got back to the office, I didn't realise I had inadvertantly triggered a massive deluge of MSN/IM around. People were all asking why I looked different - they hazard I had botox, derma-abrasion, nose job, cheek implants, face lift or something but couldn't quite put a finger on it. But few actually came up to ask me leh - strange folks - I told them if they couldn't tell, then what made them think I did anything?". My close colleague came within 1 foot of my face to examine me and she couldn't for the life you herself figure out what I had done. Then I presented myself to other friends and my family members. They nary noticed a difference - just that I looked very fresh and younger after a three week holiday (I was in Kaohsiung for only 1 week). Those I met recently (it's 1 month since surgery), none noticed a difference nor said anything!!

I say that to tell you that sometimes it's more WE who are so conscious when others are really not aware. But you did do your eyes too so ...

Enuff - glad you're well and back to tell! Take care now.
