Sales/marketing Salaries and standard of living

Post by p-dex » Sun, 25 May 2008 4:31 am

I'm looking to relocate from California and am curious what to expect on the job hunt. I have about 3 years sales/marketing experience and was wondering if anyone knows what kind of salary range I might be able to find. I have huge student loans to pay back, so basically I'm wondering if I will make enough $ to have a decent standard of living in Singapore while also paying back the loans at home... or would I most likely be barely scraping by with my lack of experience?

Think about what you are asking. You will be in a predominantly Chinese country dealing with Asians of various cultures (not just the US but China & surrounds) throughout the Pacific Rim. And you want to do marketing? You need to be able to reach your target audience don't you think?

What might be more viable is to find a position there with a company who has presence in Asia (Singapore) and work for them for a year or whatever and then get them to transfer you internally to their Asian Office.

language and cultural/societal comprehensions aside, unless you're a terribly gifted sales/marketing person (with a proven record), i don't think you're gonna enjoy being in that line in asia.

you could gun for a position that's slightly towards marketing and work your way up... but i doubt the starting pay would please you. you'll probably make better money in ca for now.

i could be wrong. i personally wouldn't risk it. but who knows; you might get lucky! with internet and airline travel, anything's possible.
