Book Club...More than books

Postby AussieNewToSing » Sat, 24 May 2008 7:07 pm

Please go to 30's Club if you are interested in meeting expats to share/swap western books, magazines and gossip with other new and old to Singapore

I am fresh of the plane from Australia with my Dutch partner living and working in Sing...looking to meet new and old with a desire to make this new foreign life more interesting!

I enjoy self help books as much as the next person.

However at the moment I am reading "Love in the time of cholera"...Gabriel Garcia Marquez winner of the Nobel Prize for literature..

Before you go thinking this is a bit HIGHBROW....I learnt of it on OPRAH.. She has a book club and recommends amazing books to her audience..It is a book that is meant to make you cry the love story in it is so great...Personally I have found the first quarter very wordy..But apparently it gets better.

I enjoy reading pretty much anything from trashy to treasure...Always have a book in my hand...I also love the magazing VANITY FAIR which I have already sourced in Singapore...

I am going to wait till I get some more responses before I organize any meetings, want at least a dozen expats, so we can take over a starbucks for the afternoon!

But thank you so much for being the first to respond. Appreciated!

Hi Liv

I am a 31 year old girl from Denmark. I have been here in Singapore for nearly 4 months now, and I would LOVE to meet up...

For the moment I go to Chinese class every morning, but all afternoons are free!!! End of June I will start studying at James Cook University here in Singapore.

You are more than welcome to send me a PM :) If you want to meet up.

Stine

Hey, Liv~
The book club sure sounds like a good idea...
I'd love to join you guys.
I'm a Chinese student studying at NUS.
I'm quite passionate about reading and would love to hear different opinions...
Please count me in if you are gonna get together..

Cecilia

Hi, Liv

I think the answer to your 1st question is "no".
Umm..pity, maybe when things could happen,
plz let me know. :)

I am kinda into books may bore people with, like
philosophies or Self-growth. hard subject books.
was thinking to exchange in discussion or to share with.

So, just keep me informed if you happen to
have this type of gathering or could share with each
living experiences from different parts of the world.

I could not PM you, but email me if anything happen.

Again, thanks for letting me know. but...pity.

isn't there a movie called love in the time of cholera. Yes, I know it's not the same as reading.
