Book Club/New friends- mid 30's

Post by AussieNewToSing » Sat, 24 May 2008 4:27 pm

Looking to join/form new group/friends.

We arrived here yesterday, keen to meet new friends and share/swap some books (have already checked out my local bookstore) Singapore Slings, ice cream..Gosh it is hot--I seriously need to lose weight fast! and knowledge on Singapore.

I am Australian, female mid 30's not working (yet?) here with my Dutch partner who works in IT and has employment here.

Currently staying in city hotel by the river and looking for apartment

Hi Liv,

Welcome to Singapore. Perhaps you could venture on the places of interest in Singapore before you finds a job cuz when you do, it will be all work!

If you wanna make a new friend, you could always email me at [email protected]

Cheers :D

Hello,

Sounds like we are in a similar situation! I moved to Singapore last Thursday (29th) and am here with my English boyfriend who has been here for a month already (working long hours). I'm 37! I am not yet working but plan to be in the not too distant future. We are living in a great apartment in the Geyland area of town. If you want to meet for a coffee or a cold beer whilst not working get in touch. Have lots of books!

book club

Post by rachelthorpe » Mon, 09 Jun 2008 1:44 pm

Hi there

Was wondering if you had formed a book club yet or met up? I am also fairly new here. From UK, early 30's, working but keen to meet new people and see more of Singapore.

Drop me a line if you would like to meet for coffee or cold beer - it's getting hotter right?

Cheers

Rachel

hi guys

really keen to enter into some kind of book swapping/book group type thing. I was sooo limited in how many books I could bring over, waiting for the rest to arrive by ship :) i'm sure you know what that's like. please get in touch if you are a like-minded book lover keen to make friends :)

I'm interested to join the book club. I read a lot too. Nowadays I frequent the library (as I find the books are getting expensive, and it's impractical for someone who reads a lot like me). I always borrow 3-5 books and audio everytime, it's tough such that when busy at work, I cram on completing the read before the deadlines, as I finish every book I start, and wouldnt want to have penalties in library.

HI!

Sounds very exciting to see so many book lovers : ) can I join you too? Even though I have been in Singapore for about a year and am working?! But am also in my 30s. So what shall we read first? I recently started reading Philippa Gregory's "The virgin's lover" following her successfully book "The other Boleyn girl". Any one interested to read it and meet up for discussion?

I used to have a book club and we need @ the coffee beans to the end of Border (not the front one). The group's leader went back to Australia and we have not met for a while.

Is this a all ladies group? Are late 30's male welcome. LOL

For slightly cheaper fictions, buy from Sans Bookshop. They have used books, but the new books are sold at a discount from retail price.

For motivational & management books, the best shop is at the basement of peninsula shopping center. It's call Success Bookshop. Lot's of good books.

Let me know if there is a coffee & book session.

Anyway, if anybody like to explore places off the beaten tracks, send me a PM.
