Spent my fair share time in our 52nd state. Often to see Yanks who ran away from the draft. :P

two things -

one is I went to a Baptist church here a couple years ago, friend's church, somewhere in Holland Villiage across from a Catholic Church, was an interesting experience, my first time to a Baptist church anywhere

it was something right out of the movies - complete with a black American priest/pastor/minister/whatever from you got it, the deep South, full of fire and brimstone, replete with lots of "can I get a witness"es and "halleujah"s

very interesting for a Catholic from NY; this parish may be an option for you

the second is, just before that, I checked out a Catholic church in my neighboorhood, alone, my first time there and to church in general in decades except for funerals, weddings, Christmases

the combination of the congregation being over 90% Singaporean, how chatty it was, that everyone seemed to know everyone else, that I wasn't even sure if I even wanted to be there, it being perhaps not the time nor place for me to try and get back into the church thing or really get into it for the first time, the odd Kumbaya-ness of it, etc. was just too alien for me

I left after a few moments, never went back

nothing against that church or those people, I blame any unease on myself

Hi, we just started a new international church 2 months ago which you may want to check out. The group is around 30 from 7 different countries including the US, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Ethiopia, Philippines and Sri Lanka.

We are inter-denominational and feature participation in the meetings and a mix of contemporary and traditional worship style. We meet from 4 to 6 pm with plenty of time for coffee, tea and refreshments and getting to know one another.

Please call or text me at 91732394 for details.

racist reply to request for churches...nice

I emailed this note to the administration for the website....

I went online to your forum to look up information on churches to attend and to my AMAZEMENT one of your moderators, sundaymorningstapel, posted and continued to post very offensive and racist comments regarding a harmless question as to church recommendations. This moderator's hatred and prejudice toward Americans and expats in general is very obvious. He made several negative and derogatory comments about Americans when the person he was responding to, who had actually made the initial posting, was Canadian...Americans had nothing to do with it! I interpret this as only being racism in the worst kind, AND he is on an expat website trying to give advice to expats????????? Why do you allow this type of language and racism on your website? You wouldn’t see this sort of garbage in America if a Singaporean accessed an expat website to ask for churches that related more to Singaporeans....you would have received actual helpful responses from Americans and non-Americans alike.
Truly disappointed in the people you have moderating your website's forum....why do even have a website for expats if you aren't going to provide helpful, nonracist advice??????

The OP initial message many would argue has a somewhat racist overtone.

Why so much anger, so blinded by rage  lets all hold hands, clap and sing in peace and happiness in the true spirit of forgiveness and tolerance etc. etc.

No humour these days ,

Hey domestickdiva, do you know you just made my whole morning!

Seeing as how I AM AN AMERICAN and yes, my sad friend, you do see that and worse in America. And it may do you well to actually look up the meaning of the word "racist" as you obviously do not have a clue as to what a racist actually is.

Have a good day.

I must say, I found it very hard, with your little tantrum, not to misspell the 'dome' as 'dip'. I must have found some restraint, or more probably, pity, this morning.

Given that the American community is quite large in Singapore, is there a popular church which has many American worshippers?

My wife and I find the singaporean accent distracting us from the message and we had a hard time interpreting it. A nondenominational christian church is fine, preferably with MRT access...

Thanks!
Hi Restin, Please don't be bummed by the strange reply you received in regards to your inquiry. There's nothing obscene & pathetic about it. I understand where you're coming from; although a Singaporean, born and bread, I still can't to this day understand or get used to Singlish. I came across your post because I too am looking for such a church for my granddaughter. She's 4 and I'd like her to attend children's service but the children's ministry in my church is sadly overrun by Singlish speaking individuals. As a result she is unable to attend children's service as yet. Friends tell us that we should let her get used to singlish and even speak it. However singlish is not English and as native speakers we do not wish to adopt this particular form of English as doing so would take away from our identity.
If you do find what you're looking for please share it with us.
Cheers and God bless

Yes interesting that 2 posts activated the "Hot" icon.

Things are indeed slow if this is hot....
