many thanks for taking the time to reply. We will keep all this in mind when viewing. I suppose the most important factor is safety (as someone mentioned, I wouldn't want my 2 year old boys to end up in the pool!) and would hate people walking past looking in (ants included).

I've done it and wouldn't recommend it, for most of the reasons mentioned above.

Privacy, noise, bugs (opening the rubbish chute and seeing a cockroach always woke me up pretty quickly), also the noise of other people's rubbish clattering its way down the chute. Certainly don't live near the entrance to the lifts or you'll be disturbed by every drunk coming home.

Maybe if you had a nice little terrace at the back of a complex, with youngsters, that would work.
